The document summarizes an annual event called the D.A.R.E. School Day with the Toronto Marlies that is organized by D.A.R.E. Halton and Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment. Students attend a Toronto Marlies hockey game, see public service announcements supporting the D.A.R.E. curriculum, and watch their D.A.R.E. officers compete in on-ice challenges. Proceeds from the event go directly to the D.A.R.E. program in Halton Region. The event aims to reinforce the relationship between students and D.A.R.E. officers while raising money and awareness for drug and alcohol prevention education.

Public School Music Program 2
Proposal directed to the New Horizon Foundation from the
Hamilton Organization
Presenting an important philanthropic project with the purpose of advancing the
opportunities of inner-city youths by providing students from low income school districts in
Dallas County with a free musical instrument and lessons. The Hamilton Organization invites the
New Horizon Foundation to join us in our efforts and asks that you kindly donate $100,000 to
our cause. This proposal will prove why The Hamilton organization believes that providing
students from low income school districts with a free musical instrument to be a worthy cause,
and why in the long run this program will improve the quality of life of the students involved.
The proposal will also discuss the allocation of funds and the sustainability of the program. The
Hamilton Foundation has been actively involved in the Dallas community for five years now,
and has successfully launched other programs aimed at improving the life and offering
opportunities for inner city youths. The Hamilton Organization believes that through a
partnership with New Horizon Foundation we can continue to do great things for the community.

Public School Music Program 4
Executive Summary
The Hamilton Organization has been committed to the advancement of at risk youth for
many years now. We believe that with your help we can do more than we at first thought
possible, reach more youth, and provide better opportunities.
Some low income school districts do have music programs in Dallas County, however
many students and their families are not able to spare any money on an instrument. This greatly
inhibits the opportunities for many students. Education is the great equalizer; and it has been
proven that low income neighborhoods, with low income school districts produce students who
are less likely to graduate, and more likely to be in the welfare system, or worse prison.
Our request of a donation of $100,000 will be used to provide students age 6 to 10, or 1st
grade through 4th grade students, who are interesting in joining the music program with a free
musical instrument. Arts in the school are important and often neglected when it comes to the
well-rounded education of a child. It has be.

1. D.A.R.E. Halton School Day With THE TORONTO MARLIES Join us on November 24th, 2010 for our 3rd annual event. 1
2. Maple Leaf Sports & D.A.R.E. Halton Back in 2007 D.A.R.E. Halton was contacted by representatives of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) about a possible partnership to assist in raising both awareness and money for the Drug Awareness Education Programm. Both DARE and MLSE share a common goal… to educate youth about drugs, alcohol and violence. In 2008 the MLSE AHL franchise Toronto Marlies asked for and received league approval to move a regular season game to 11:30am to allow schools to participate in the first DARE Day with The Toronto Marlies. This was no small feat and demonstrated a strong commitment on the part of both MSLE and the league to the DARE program.
3. The Event The DARE School Day with the Toronto Marlies is a full day event held at Ricoh Coliseum. The day begins in the morning with buses arriving at the school to pick up students. All buses are arranged by MLSE. Students are treated to a regular season AHL league game between the Toronto Marlies and the Grand Rapids Griffins. During the game students are also exposed to a series of Public Service Announcements on the big screen supporting the DARE curriculum. Between periods students can cheer on their own DARE officer competing in an on ice challenge. The scheduled end time of the game allows students to return to their pre-assigned busses for the return trip to their schools in time for the end of the school day.
4. Celebrate D.A.R.E. This event is a celebration of the DARE program in Halton Region and is endorsed by the Halton District Public School Board, The Halton District Catholic School Board and the Halton Regional Police Service. The game is not only attended by students and their teachers from both school boards but also by senior members of the Police Service as well as by senior representatives of both the Public and Catholic school Boards. And during the festivities the biggest applause is reserved for the Halton Police School Resource officers who teach the DARE program in the schools. This event helps to reinforce the special relationship that exists between the officers and the students. 4
5. 5 More Than Just a Hockey Game D.A.R.E. and MLSE are committed to making this event more than just a hockey game. During the event the students are exposed to a series of messages that are an extension of the decision making skills they are taught as part of the DARE program. The presence of the School Resource Officers as well as other senior members of the Police Service at the game further position this event as an extension of the DARE curriculum. And proceeds from the game go directly into the DARE program in Halton region.
6.
7. Improved communication and logistics at Ricoh Coliseum. This allowed for a smooth and well coordinated drop off and pick up of students.
8.
9. This program is run by volunteers of the DARE Halton Board. This group of individuals donate their time to ensuring the ongoing sustainability of this important youth initiative in Halton Region. Please help to ensure the ongoing success of this program by signing your classrooms up now.
