This document contains problems related to simple harmonic motion, forced vibrations, and the origin of refractive index. Problem 7.1 asks the reader to plot the displacement of a string at various points over time given an equation describing the wave. Problem 7.2 asks the reader to analyze the time variation of displacement in loops of a standing wave given another equation. Problem 7.3 asks the reader to show that a mass dropped in a tunnel through the earth would execute simple harmonic motion and calculate the time period.
