Bill Gates outlines 11 rules that are not typically taught in school but are important for success in the real world. 2. Here is a list of 11 things that many high school and
college graduates did not learn in school. In his book, Bill
Gates talks about how feel-good, politically-correct
teachings created a full generation of kids with no
concept of reality and how this concept set them up for
failure in the real world!

3. RULE 1
Life is not fair - get used to it!
Hidup ini tidak adil - biasakan diri kalian dengan
kenyataan ini!

4. RULE 2
The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world
will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel
good about yourself.
Dunia tak kan peduli harga diri kalian. Dunia hanya menginginkan
kalian bisa menghasilkan suatu karya atau pencapaian SEBELUM
kalian bisa merasa nyaman dengan diri kalian sendiri.

5. RULE 3
You will NOT make 40 thousand dollars a year right out
of high school. You won't be a vice president with
car phone, until you earn both.
Kalian TIDAK akan mendapat gaji besar begitu lulus sekolah. Kalian tidak
akan bisa jadi seorang wakil presiden dengan fasilitas mobil sampai kalian
benar-benar layak mendapatkannya.

6. RULE 4
If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a
boss. He doesn't have tenure.
Jika kalian beranggapan guru kalian bersikap keras,
tunggu sampai kalian mendapat seorang bos.

7. RULE 5
Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your
grandparents had a different word for burger flipping
they called it Opportunity.
Jangan gengsi melakukan pekerjaan part-time. Kakek-nenek kalian
punya istilah yang berbeda untuk pekerjaan semacam ini - mereka
menyebutnya peluang.

8. RULE 6
If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't
whine about your mistakes, learn from them.
Jika kalian berbuat salah, itu bukan kesalahan orangtuamu. Jadi jangan
mengeluh karena kesalahan-kesalahanmu, melainkan ambil pelajaran
dari kesalahan itu.

9. RULE 7
Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they
are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your
clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you are. So
before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's
generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.
Sebelum kalian lahir, orangtua kalian tidak bersikap
membosankan seperti sekarang. Mereka seperti itu karena harus
membayar tagihan-tagihan kalian, membersihkan pakaian kalian,
dan mendengarkan kalian bercerita betapa kerennya kalian. Jadi
sebelum kalian menyingkirkan parasit-parasit dari generasi
orangtua kalian, cobalah hilangkan dulu kutu-kutu di dalam diri
kalian.

10. RULE 8
Your school may have done away with winners and losers,
but life has not. In some schools they have abolished
failing grades and they'll give you as many times as
you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the
slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.
Sekolah kalian bisa saja tidak memilih mana pemenang dan mana
pihak yang kalah, tapi hidup TIDAK SEPERTI ITU. Di beberapa sekolah,
nilai-nilai yang jelek bisa dihapus begitu saja. Mereka akan memberi
kalian BANYAK SEKALI kesempatan untuk memperbaiki kegagalan
kalian. Hal ini TIDAK AKAN TERJADI di dalam kehidupan nyata.

11. RULE 9
Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get
summers off and very few employers are interested in
helping you find yourself. Do that on your own time.
Hidup itu tidak terdiri dari semester-semester. Kalian tidak
akan mendapat waktu istirahat. Dan hanya ada segelintir
pemberi kerja yang tertarik untuk membantu kalian dalam
MENEMUKAN JATI DIRI KALIAN. Lakukan itu sendiri.

12. RULE 10
Television is NOT real life. In real life people
actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.
Televisi BUKAN kehidupan nyata. Dalam kehidupan nyata, orang-
orang harus meninggalkan kedai kopi dan bekerja.

13. RULE 11
Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.
Bersikap baiklah dengan orang-orang CUPU. Mungkin saja, salah
satu dari orang-orang CUPU ini akan jadi atasan kalian.
