Exterior Render- K’Rd
The ghost market is a mysterious,
whimsical and vibrant place for
exchange, an alternative health and
spiritual market that harness the
lively character of its K Rd context.
It is a place where the diverse
subcultural and minority spiritual
groups are celebrated, where their
vibrancy is held and contrasted
inside the ghostly rationalized
building.
The markets architecture is one of
a gridded rigorous framework, a
concrete bone-like skeleton. The
building juxtaposes the scattered
nature of K Rd and the markets
occupation, contextualized to K
Rd’s history and its fractured past,
between the change in atmosphere
between the pre and post motorway
eras.
Theplanofthebuildingispunctuated
by two towers, which are visible from
the street. The towers act as portals
between the market realms, offering
sweeping views at their summits. The
buildings massing is contextualized
to the site by using the geometry
of the adjacent Victorian facades,
employing the same proportioning
into the sliding rhythm of the new
architecture, continuing the grain of
the street.
