10. About BuriedTreasures Ministry:
BuriedTreasures is a prison ministry of
First Baptist Jackson that began as a way
to meet the spiritual, emotional, and
financial needs of Central Mississippi’s
inmates and their children.
11. One inmate who used the services of the
BuriedTreasures Ministry said, “My
children didn’t do the crime, but they
have to do the time.”
26. 41 And the Philistine moved forward and
came near to David, with his shield-bearer
in front of him. 42 And when the Philistine
looked and saw David, he disdained him,
for he was but a youth, ruddy and
handsome in appearance.
29. 45Then David said to the Philistine, “You
come to me with a sword and with a spear
and with a javelin, but I come to you in the
name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the
armies of Israel,Whom you have defied.
30. 46This day the LORD will deliver you into
my hand, and I will strike you down and
cut off your head. And I will give the dead
bodies of the host of the Philistines this
day to the birds of the air and to the wild
beasts of the earth, that all the earth may
know that there is a God in Israel,
31. 47 and that all this assembly may know
that the LORD saves not with sword and
spear. For the battle is the LORD's, and He
will give you into our hand.”
36. 52 And the men of Israel and Judah rose
with a shout and pursued the Philistines as
far as Gath and the gates of Ekron, so that
the wounded Philistines fell on the way
from Shaaraim as far as Gath and Ekron.
38. 53 And the people of Israel came back from
chasing the Philistines, and they
plundered their camp. 54 And David took
the head of the Philistine and brought it to
Jerusalem, but he put his armor in his tent.
40. An important point in this story is that
Goliath was taunting the sovereign Lord
of the universe.
He was challenging God's people to stand
up to him and demonstrate that their God
was more powerful than he was.
44. However, David's faith was so strong that
he was willing to believe that the Lord
would go with him and enable him to
defeat Goliath.
David’s faith was born out of his
experience of God’s grace and mercy in his
life up to that point.
46. From the story of David and Goliath, we
can learn that the God we serve is
capable of defeating any of the giants in
our lives—fear, depression, financial
issues, doubts of faith—if we know Him
and His nature well enough to step out in
faith.
48. When we do not know what the future
holds, we have to trust Him.
But we can’t trust someone we don’t
know, so knowing God through HisWord
will build our faith in Him.
50. Our battles with the giants in our lives will
result in victory if we trust in the God we
have gotten to know through HisWord,
act in faith based on His promises in His
Word and cling by faith to God and His
power.
52. The Plan of Hope & Salvation
John 3:16 ESV
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son,
that whoever believes in him should not perish but have
eternal life.”
John 14:6 ESV
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the
life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
53. Romans 3:23 ESV
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 6:23a ESV
23a For the wages of sin is death,
• Death in this life (the first death) is 100%.
• Even Jesus, the only one who doesn’t deserve death,
died in this life to pay the penalty for our sins.
• The death referred to in Romans 6:23a is the second
death explained in Revelation 21:8.
54. Revelation 21:8 ESV
8 “But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as
for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters,
and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns
with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”
Romans 6:23b ESV
23b but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our
Lord.
55. Romans 5:8 ESV
8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still
sinners, Christ died for us.
Revelation 21:7 ESV
7 "The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will
be his God and he will be my son.”
Romans 10:9-10 explains to us how to be conquerors.
56. Romans 10:9-10 ESV
9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is
Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from
the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one
believes and is justified, and with the mouth one
confesses and is saved.
Romans 10:13 ESV
13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be
saved.”
