Vuyk Engineering Rotterdam was contracted by Smit Engineering to review a basic design for dynamically positioned anchor handling tug/supply vessels (AHTS) with 70-ton and 120-ton bollard pull capabilities. Smit ordered two 70-ton AHTS from a shipyard in Singapore, with an option for two 120-ton AHTS, which they later exercised. Vuyk assisted Smit by comparing shipyard offers, advising on propulsion and thruster configurations to obtain DP-2 dynamic positioning classification.

SAL Heavy Lift, a member of the “K” Line Group, is a world leading carrier specialized in sea transport of heavy lift and project cargo.
Belgium is one of the European leaders in the development of offshore wind farms. Since 2008 the port of Ostend has been closely involved with the development and operation of wind farms in the North Sea. In order to explore this business opportunity the investment company, REBO NV, was founded. Since then, several projects have been realized at the REBO-terminal in the Port of Oostende and a close offshore wind network has been developed.
Anchorage technical services WLL. was established in 2011 primarily to support maritime industries and it started by doing subcontracts for China Harbour Engineering Co. while developing Hamad Port at various stages. Later the activities were diverted to other industries, and it continued until 31st October 2019 when the company was taken over by the current management team to support maritime industry in Qatar and worldwide fleet owners

During the last quarter of 2003, Vuyk Engineering Rotterdam was contracted by
Smit Engineering - part of the SMIT Group - to review a basic design for a
dynamically positioned anchor handling tug/supply vessel (AHTS), providing a
basis for modular upgrading to diving support, oil recovery and other duties.
In the first phase, SMIT intended to order two 70-ton bollard pull vessels and one
120-ton bollard pull AHTS.
After an international tender, resulting in offers from yards in The Netherlands,
Norway, Spain and Singapore, Smit Transport & Heavy Lift B.V. ordered in March
2004 two 70-ton bp AHTS from the Keppel Singmarine yard in Singapore with an
option for two 120-ton bp AHTS. In July 2004 Smit exercised its option to build this
vessel.

Classification
VER scope of work
All vessels are certfied by American Bureau of Shipping for the class notation:
A1(e), Offshore Support Vessel, Anchor Handling Towing Vessel, AMS,
ACCU, FiFi Class 1, +DPS-2
The first AHTS - named 'Smit Kamara' - has been contracted by the Nederlandse
Aardolie Maatschappij B.V.'(NAM) for a 5-year charter period.
The second 70-ton bollard pull AHTS - named 'Smit Komodo' - shall also be fitted
as Diving Support Vessel. For this purpose this vessel shall have two 850 kW bow
thrusters and two 550 kW stern thrusters, enhancing dynamic positioning
capabilities. Furthermore the vessel can accommodate 50 persons instead of 42
persons.
The 'Smit Komodo'' will be deployed on a long -term charter in Egypt and the 120
ton bollard pull 'Smit Nicobar', which is due for delivery June 2006 and will start a
charter in Sakhalin, Russia.
On March 31, 2006 SMIT announced that they have reached an agreement for the
purchase of seven newly built work vessels from Hadi H. Al-Hammam Est. of
Saudi Arabia. These vessels of approximately 75 tons bp are a modified version of
the 'Smit Kamara' and 'Smit Komodo'' The first two vessels of this new series will
be delivered during 2006 and the last one is expected to be delivered in 2008.
They will be managed by the SMIT Singapore organisation.
