Interns are a wonderful source of help and insight within our institutions. If we are lucky, we can offer them paid positions, but more often than not, they are unpaid. Beyond being a line item on their resumé, how can we nurture and mentor our interns to ensure they have meaningful experiences during their time at our organizations? Building character, modeling professionalism, and inspiring a love of cultural work should be goals for our impact on each intern. We discuss how we attempt to maximize interns’ exposure to a variety of museum career paths while also working on their technical expertise through video editing projects. Share stories of engaging projects and fun ways to recognize intern success during our seven minutes of lightning glory.

Relevant Experience
Interns should be doing work related to their major,
that is challenging, that is recognized by the
organization as valuable, and that fills the entire work
term. - NACE
