Rep. Ruth Samuelson

February 4, 2008 LEGISLATIVE UPDATE Raleigh, NC

I mentioned various transportation funding needs in my last email and it looks like
we may be in for some good news on that front. When the North Carolina Board
of Transportation meets on Thursday February 7, 2008, they will consider
funding our highway lighting problems on I-77, I-85, I-277, and I-485.
Hopefully, this funding will be allocated and we will get these much needed
repairs done.

As for the drought, we were blessed with more rain than expected for December
and January, but we are still in an extreme drought condition. Every little bit
that you can save now will help when demand escalates in the spring. Please do
your part to conserve. I recently bought rain barrels through the county and
thought I would pass along information on the next sale.

Saturday, April 19, 2008: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Pick up: Ray's Splash Planet - 215 N. Sycamore Street
Deadline to order: Monday, April 7, 2008

Customers are welcome to access Mecklenburg Soil and Water Conservation
District's website at http://www.charmeck.org/rainbarrelsale

Finally, I will be participating in the Emerging Issues Forum conference on North
Carolina's Energy Futures: Realizing a State of Opportunity later in the month.
This is a unique and timely forum to discuss the economic development
opportunities before us as North Carolina and the world adjust to a new energy
economy. If you are interested in attending go to

                                Representative Ruth Samuelson
