Generalization: A conclusion based on
several facts.
Most people who are nice to others often have lots of friends.
(Generalizations are made with words like many, most, some, usually, often)
Off to work
we go
Juan met many
people in
searching for
Dona Josefa.
These people
helped him in
many ways. In
return, Juan
worked the
fields on their
farms, digging
potatoes, and
harvesting
corn.
Juan was a
thief, and as a
thief, he
shunned work.
He was
surprised that
he liked being
outside in the
warm sun all
day. He felt
satisfaction as
he looked at
the day’s
harvest and
when a farmer
shook his hand
for a job well-
done. He also
enjoyed talking
with his co-
workers.
Suppose Pete’s
room at home
is filled with
books about
plants, rocks,
birds, and
animals. Pete’s
friends know
that he likes to
go camping
and that he
looks forward
to trip to the
zoo. What
generalization
might we make
about Pete?
The third little pig was clever. Detail 1
The third little pig knew the wolf was
dangerous. Fact 2
The third little pig worked harder than the
other pigs, building his house out of
sturdier materials.
Fact 3
Generalization-
Clever people work hard/carefully/plan
for survival to solve problems.
