Shrine of the Immaculate
Conception
 One of the most notable projects is the Basilica of
the National Shrine of the Immaculate
Conception. A site of national and international
pilgrimages, the Basilica of the National Shrine of
the Immaculate Conception has earned acclaim
for its Redemption Dome, which features a series
of religious imagery significant to Catholicism,
including the temptation of Christ in the desert.
While the original plans for the basilica in the
1950s included such a dome, the Redemption
Dome did not enter its main planning stages until
1999. The mosaics in this part of the basilica,
which were completed in 2006, have inspired
reverence and devotion in visitors to the site in the
years since then.
