1. SAME SEX MARRIAGE
A couple of days I was at my house watching T.V, and I heard the news
about the most controversial issue that Colombia is Facing today: Gay
marriage, the Colombians argue that it violates their rights, it violates
religious principals and morals
is one of the most controversial issues
facing our country today. Many argue that it violates religious principles and
morals.
Same sex known as gay marriage or equal marriage it is
marriage between two persons of the same biological sex or gender.
Colombian lawmakers, the Senate are debating to approve o disapprove
a same sex marriage proposal, the LGBT community in Colombia argue
that they don’t enjoy the same rights that heterosexuals do, under the
constitution, if Colombia accepts, same sex couples would immediately
have the right to affiliate their partner to their social security system and
health coverage.
The article 42 of the Colombian Constitution which states, “The family is the
fundamental unit of society. It is constituted by natural or legal ties; by the
free decision of a man and a woman to marry”, well, this provision did not
allow same sex couples to marry, it is not allowed to them to enjoy the right
to cohabit. The LGBT claims equal treatment and not t be discriminated.
Will be Colombia the 15th country to legalize same sex marriage? France
becomes the 14th country to legalize gay marriage, I believe Colombia its
far away from accepting same sex marriage and I agree with that, first at all
marriage is a conservative institution based on Christian religious values
2. and those values has normative and cultural, and I srongly believe that
extending those rights to them does little or nothing to address the structure
of the family laws and the values in society.
To conclude, I am a powerful believer that the Colombian Constitution do
not exclude them, the only thing is that they not ready to say yes to a same
sex marriage, because Colombia as a secular state that decision goes
against on what nature dictates, let’s do not forget that the concept of
Family in Colombia is in effect, and family is considered a union between a
man and a woman, but we have to give good treatment to same sex
couples too.
