Biblical Deliverance part1
1. MARK 1: 21 - 39
Biblical Deliverance
by Aham Igbokwe
2. A Day in the
Life of Jesus
(is deliverance)
Deliverance of a man at the
synagogue.
Deliverance of Simon’s Mother in-
law from fever.
Deliverance ministration to the
whole city.
The next day – in synagogues
throughout Galilee – he cast out
demons.
3. Note:
The Bible is made up of two parts; the Old Testament
and the New Testament.
In the Old Testament, there are 3 Hebrew words that can
be translated into deliver/deliverance.
4. Natsal - לַָצנ
This word essentially means to rescue or to (physically)
deliver.
[ Exodus 3:7-8 ]
It is also used to represent delivering spiritually.
[Psalms 39:8, Psalms 51:14, Psalms 69:14-17, Psalms 79:9]
5. Palat - טַלָפ
This is a synonym to the Hebrew word Natsal.
Palat can mean to ‘save’ or to ’deliver.’ It is also
translated as ‘escape’ or ‘deliverance.’This Hebrew word
is mostly used in the poetic Psalms or elsewhere in the
Old Testament.
6. Yasha - ע ַָשי
This is most Frequently used and is also translated into
‘deliver.’
7. ‘The dramatic
deliverance of
anyone who is
in a perilous
situation.’
With these 3 Hebrew words, the
idea and essence is the rescue of a
person who has no sufficient
control of a plight.
In the Old Testament, the context
of which these words are used
suggests that God is the deliverer
and we, humans, are to be
delivered.
8. New Testament
Whereas the Old Testament was written in Hebrew.
Almost all the New Testament was written in Greek.
In the New Testament, the Greek word for deliverance is
SÓZÓ.
9. Rhuomai - ῥύομαι
Rhuomai: means to draw to oneself, i.e. deliver.
This word occurs 18 times in the New Testament.
This word is used in Colossians 1:13
“Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and
hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.”
10. These 5 words all mean to rescue, deliver and save.
This shows that deliverance is not only biblical but is a
fundamental theme in the Bible.
However, deliverance has been turned into a ‘D word’ in the
church because it’s being sugar-coated and substituted with
more familiar words like saved and salvation.
[see Psalms 51:14]
11. Challenge:
‘Salvation
=
Deliverance’
Anytime you come across the words:
Saved, Save, Salvation or Saviour.
Try substituting it for the words:
Delivered, Deliver, Deliverance or
Deliverer.
This will help you appreciate the
original, true meaning and show that
salvation equals deliverance
12. God as a
Deliverer
There are many facets of God as our
Deliverer:
Psalms 44:4
Psalms 40:17
Psalms 70:5
Psalms 144:1-2
Joel 2:32
Psalms 18:2
14. The Question of Deliverance
Admittedly, the matter of deliverance ministrations has
become contumelious in the 21st century Church.
A contumelious question asked is: “Why deliverance –
can a Christian have a demon?”
In answer to this, see these scriptures:
Matthew 7
Matthew 1:23, 39
2 Corinthians 13:5
15. A man with evil spirits was found at
the synagogue.
16. Prayer
Points:
1. Every confinement and concealment of
evil in my life, be exposed in the name
of Jesus.
2. Every evil shades blocking me from
the glory of God, scatter to pieces in
the name of Jesus Christ.
3. Every habitation of cruelty over my
life, be wasted in the name of Jesus.See; Psalm 74:20
