A tunnel was dug from a prisoner of war camp between 23/24 July 1918 over 9 months by British prisoners to escape. The tunnel was 50 meters long, 700mm wide and 600mm high. 80 prisoners planned to escape through the tunnel but only 29 managed to escape with 3 being temporarily buried and 10 making it back to England. The tunnel was dug in secret by prisoners who formed the British Amateur Dramatic Society as a cover for their activities.
