2. INTRODUCTION
Perio Protect is an award-winning method for treating
gum disease, which affects up to 80 percent of all
Americans at some level, and 47 percent at a chronic
level. Perio Protect uses patented perio trays to deliver
disease-fighting antimicrobials deep into the gums,
killing up to 90 percent of pathogens. In addition to
treating gum disease, reviews from patients
supplementing their treatment with perio trays show
another remarkable benefit—reduced gum bleeding.
To investigate the efficacy of perio tray treatments in
reducing bleeding, a study was done by researchers from
IA Periodontics and Prosthodontics and Ohio University
School of Rehabilitation and Communication Sciences.
The results of this study were published in The Journal of
Clinical Dentistry.

3. PERIO
The study was performed on 66 patients with periodontal
disease who had exhausted their treatment options. The
patients were put on prescription perio trays, with 1.7
percent hydrogen peroxide gel applied up to two times a
day for 2 to 5 years. Data was collected after 6 months, 1
year, and then annually during the course of the study.
Positive results were visible within 6 months into the
treatment.
Researchers found that perio tray delivery was most
effective in reducing bleeding in the shallower pockets of
the gums (3-4mm), where an 85 percent reduction in
bleeding was recorded. In the deeper pockets (7mm
plus), a 60 percent reduction in bleeding was recorded.
