Double Trouble
Many people wonder what is it is like having a twin. It’s fun yet, it’s annoying at times.
My twin sister Riya and I are very close to one another. We basically do everything together, and
she is only seven minutes older than me. Although we did everything together I was always put
in the stop to go first.
Our trip to India in January of 2011 was the most memorable trip ever. We had gone for
one of my cousins wedding. I went there a week before the rest of my family arrived. I knew one
thing that Riya and I both wanted to get done a long time ago was getting our second ear hole
pierced together, but I wanted to make sure with my grandmother that it was ok.
“Grandma can I ask you a question?” I asked.
“Yes, hunny?” said my grandmother.
“Do you think it would be ok for Riya and I to get our second hole in our ears pierced?”
“Well, of course!” my grandmother said.
Now that I had gotten the permission for my grandmother I couldn’t wait till my sister
came here, but I never knew that waiting a whole week felt like an eternity. I was so happy that I
2. called Riya and told her that it was ok for us to get it done, she also was very excited! But getting
something pierced was something that my sister and I are both afraid of. For me it’s not the
needle that scares me it’s the pain. And Riya is a little different she is afraid of both pain and the
needle. Ever since we were little my sister would always want me to get things done first,
whether it was getting a haircut, going down the slide or anything that she was afraid to do, I had
to be the daring one to do it.
Finally it was January 24 and Riya had flown in the night before. The next morning I
woke up very early because I was excited to get our ears pierced. As soon and I woke up I went
and woke Riya up. Then we both got ready and woke my aunt and mom up who were also going
to come with us for support because we both were very nervous. When we got to the shop to get
it done, my sister and I both started shaking because we were afraid. And like Riya made me go
first. At this time I felt like running away from the shop, but I knew this was my one and only
shot.
“READY?” yelled Riya n
“No I am scared why don’t you go first please? You are older than me.” I told Riya
“Nope sorry.” Riya said.
“Fine this is the last time I am doing anything first, next time it’s your turn.” I screamed back.
As the guy is putting a dot in my left ear to see where exactly I want my earing to go, I
start to freak out. Then he asked me to stand still, I knew right then it was time, I shouldn’t
move. I held onto my mom and aunt like a little kid getting a shot for the first time. I closed my
eyes very tightly as well as holding on to both my mom and aunts hand at the same time. Finally
3. it was done, I didn’t feel a thing, yet those five second of my life felt like years. Then it was
time for the right ear, even though it wasn’t pain pull I still held onto my mom and aunt. After it
was done I was so happy that it wasn’t pain full and that I was just being a big baby.
“Did it hurt?” Riya asked
“Actually it didn’t hurt one but, it feels like you got pinched by an ant.” I said.
Just by the look on her face I could tell that she didn’t want to get it done.
“Ready?” said the piercing guy.
Riya was so nervous she held onto my mom and aunt at the same time. The guy hasn’t even
touched her ear yet and she starts to scream. After talking to her for couple minutes we go her to
calm down and the guy pierced her ears. After she was done she was also shocked and said that
she didn’t feel a thing also
The 2011 trip to India was the most memorable trip for the both of us. Ultimately sharing
these experiences straighten the bond between my sister and me.
