The Championships, Wimbledon (or simply Wimbledon) is the world’s oldest tennis competition and one of the Grand Slam tournaments. 9th July 1877 marked the first Wimbledon Championship, with the only event being the Gentlemen’s Singles. This championship has taken place at the All England Club in London since it was first created.

The Championships, Wimbledon – most often referred
to as Wimbledon – is thought to be the world’s most
prestigious tennis tournament.
Hosted by the All England Club in Wimbledon, London, it is the
oldest tennis tournament in the world, having run for 141 years
since 1877.
Wimbledon is a Grand Slam tennis tournament, of which there
are only four – the Australian Open, the French Open, the US
open and The Championships, Wimbledon. Wimbledon is the
only major tournament to be played outdoors on grass courts
and the competition takes place in June and July every year.
Players are required to wear all-white to play at Wimbledon,
which is a long-standing tradition at the tournament.
The last day of the competition sees the Ladies’ and Gentleman’s
Singles Finals. The winner of the 2018 Men’s singles was Novak
Djokovic, and Angelique Kerber was the 2018 Women’s singles
champion. Roger Federer is the player with the most singles
titles, with eight wins. However, female player Martina Navratilova
is the player with the most singles titles, with a total of nine.
