economy, and will publish its popular State of the Cities blog series later this year.

NLCU held twelve informative and inspiring seminars throughout the conference on a number of topics ranging
from impact volunteering and big data to government advocacy and crisis communication.
A local Nashville band kept delegates entertained throughout the conference with a catchy blend of
American folk music. The city of Nashville will play host to NLC’s annual Congress of Cities, which takes
place this November 4-7 at the Nashville Music City Center.
Long lines were the order of the day on the morning of the President’s speech, with some attendees waiting
more than three hours to pass through security. However, the process ran smoothly and conference delegates
remained cheerful and upbeat as they enthusiastically waited to see the commander-in-chief.

The President revealed his new TechHire initiative, which calls for a partnership between cities, higher education
and the private sector to expand access to tech jobs in communities across the country.
President Obama enjoys the boisterous and supportive crowd response to his address at the Opening General
Session on Monday, March 9. The audience was quite vocal at times, with one attendee shouting “I love you”
during the beginning of his speech. Cheers were loud when the President responded, “I love you, too.”
The centerpiece of the Congressional City Conference, President Obama’s speech was interrupted by
applause on numerous occasions - particularly when he told city leaders, “you’re part of the reason
why America is coming back.”

Together with NLC staff and leadership, members of the Young Elected Officials (YEO) Network take a

#GOLOCAL was a popular Twitter hashtag at this year’s conference. Throughout 2015, NLC and its
members are encouraging Congress to “go local” and consider the federal priorities that cities and
their residents need most.

which greatly added to the depth of NLC social media content. Tim Epner of CGI Communications also worked
hard to provide audio and video support for a number of events.
It takes a tremendous amount of hard work behind the scenes to ensure that a conference featuring
the President of the United States runs smoothly for more than 2,000 attendees. Here, a video

the NLC Institute for Youth, Education & Families about building safe, healthy and educated communities for young people

Wednesday, March 11 was a great day for federal advocacy on behalf of cities, as NLC scheduled more than
120 meetings between city leaders and representatives on Capitol Hill and at the White House. Here, city

However, the process ran smoothly and conference delegates remained cheerful and upbeat as they enthusiastically waited to see the commander-in-chief.

The audience was quite vocal at times, with one attendee shouting “I love you” during the beginning of his speech. Cheers were loud when the President responded, “I love you, too.”
  • 17. The centerpiece of the Congressional City Conference, President Obama’s speech was interrupted by applause on numerous occasions - particularly when he told city leaders, “you’re part of the reason why America is coming back.”
