2. Best selling horror movies of
2013
Evil Dead was the best selling horror film of 2013 it is about possession, demons and some paranormal
activity, the film also contains blood and a lot of gory chopping of body parts. It is very visual where we see
everything and nothing is left to the imagination. The trailer does not give much away however we can see
the gruesomeness of blood in the short snips that pop up for about three seconds. This film may attract
viewers more because it shows everything, it does not leave at any horrific and shocking images. I will need
to consider this when making my trailer, also if possession is a popular type of horror that will attract my
audience.
3. The Purge is about, the fear of what society can lead to, a world with a 12 hour purge where all crime is
legal. It is about the rich and the poor and who can afford to be safe. the moral of the movie is for a country
to be crime free all year round. The wealthy people can afford to keep safe why the poor are seen as
vulnerable, is the fair? This is a debate about is society reasonable and what the world can lead to and who
will suffer. By making the film more realistic and relating it to a wide range audience attracts viewers more,
and questions if in real life there could be a purge. I personally believe people can watch horror to be feared,
but knowing it’s a film puts viewers at ease, however The Purge leaves the audience thinking could this
happen in real life. The trailer of film, makes it even seem more realistic with the countdown before The
Purge and the realistic CCTV footage. The film does also contains blood and gore.
4. The Conjuring is also about possession, paranormal, demons and witches. This is a jumpy horror that keeps
audience hidden behind pillows and tense at every scene. The film, based on real life which I believe
attracts viewers, knowing it really happened draws them in more, it is about a family who are experiencing
weird activates around a new house, paranormal investigators are involved, where it leads to an exorcism.
The controversial symbols of religion, and seeing a mother becoming a villain fascinates and interests
viewers. The trailer is just the same as the film its self, it starts of as if it is a family movie with a nice happy
scene of the family laughing and playing, which then leads to spirits playing with the family. We see short
snips of what to expect such as ghosts and little girl spirits . The trailer does not contain blood or gore as
the previous films but was a success, maybe because it was based on life events to put in the fear that
blood and gore does.
