Taiwan is one of the most convenient country in the world. Take a look around our life, you will find the plastic are everywhere, things are wrapping by plastic papers to sell. All the stuff can be place into a plastic bag than bag it!
There is no doubt the wonderful useful qualities of plastic, make our life become more convenient. But it seems let our life too plastic.
We are already used into this plastic life, but nobody really realize that we are abusing plastic..
And most of these plastic in our life, are designed for just single used. These single used plastic have very short life span unless they are recycled. These are all end up as trash. Less half of them were consigned to landfill or Incineration Plant, the other scattered on river, continent or ocean.
Even the trash those are placed into landfill. It doesn’t mean that they are treated appropriately. Mismanagement landfill brought a serious problem of secondary pollution of litter.

回收很重要 但問題的癥結是濫用
In most cases, these hazardous wastes might be mixed with building materials wastes, and later on, used as the materials for construct embankment or being landfills. As the photos shown here, this embankment were built by the materials mixed with hazardous wastes. Some part of this embankment were washed into the ocean by waves. Is this safe for our ocean? Won’t these poison the offshore?
There is a shore were dumped a lot of hazardous wastes and it stretch for 2-3 kilometers. The famous 南寮 fishery harbor is located at the south of this hazardous wastes shore with the distances less than 5 kilometers.
I found at least 15 different place where covered by these hazardous wastes. This means that the industrial hazardous waste management has long-term not been carried out appropriately in Taiwan. This is a very serious public issue, because the pollution not only damage the marine environment but also threaten our heath through the food those grown on polluting soil and water.
in the other side of this embankments are the fish farms. Can you believe it? This is where the fish on our table from.
These oysters are collected from fishing port in 高雄，In the past, the green oysters were only found in Tainan and 新竹, but now we can found them in the area with highly industrialization. This is a big warning that our marine environment seems facing very seriously challenge from pollutions. There is an urgent need to make an overall survey of out seashore to see the heath of our marine environment.

This sea turtle was killed by plastic bags. In this moment, there are a lot of marine animals and sea birds are killed by eating plastic wastes or killed by ingest be entangled. 。

We have only one planet and Taiwan is our sweet home, if we don’t treasure them we will lost them in nearly future. In the past, the we abused the resource of the Earth has already brought a lot of disasters to our life. The fisherman caught no fish but all the plastic rubbish.
老掉牙的呼籲，卻很重要
So, it’s the truth I found in my journey, but it’s all? Of course Not! This journey inspired me that the situation is tough, but we all have the power to change. The most important thing is to realize we are too plastic, we should wean us from plastic addiction. We can start the changing through: first. reduce our abusing of plastic, it’s a limited resource on earth. Second, Reuse it, we need to cherish the things we have, only buy the things we really need. And the last step, recycling them if we abandon them, to let them become the renewable resource.
