What is Career & College Ready? Students that are
Career- and College- ready:
1. Use technology and tools strategically in
   learning and communicating
2. Use argument and reasoning to do
   research, construct arguments, and critique the
   reasoning of others

   variety of audiences
4. Solve problems, construct explanations and
   design solutions
How Do You Decide Which Cell Phone to Buy?
What are the objectives of this lesson?
1. You will learn how to access and analyze college
   options.

2. You will learn a strategy for making career
   and colleges decisions.

3. You learn about college resources which will
   help provide useful direction for your career
   and college readiness.
Learning Goal:
Each student will be able to explain the
three steps of the career and college
readiness process and identify the
fifteen public colleges in Michigan by
earning at least an 80% score on the
post-test.

Readiness:

1. Awareness of Careers and Colleges

3. Decision-Making; Planning and Preparation

•   Challenge Learning new skills or information, self-development
•   Creativity Doing things in a new way, inventing things, or developing different approaches or
    methods
•   Income       Making a high salary
•   Prestige     Doing work that is seen as important and for which people admire and respect you
•   Variety                 Doing many different activities, not doing the same things all the time
•   Working in a Group Working with others, being cooperative, getting to know coworkers
•   Helping Others          Doing things for others, building a better world
•   Security             Having stable employment, steady income, not worrying about being laid off
•   Physical Activity    Doing work that requires physical activity, such as walking, lifting, and carrying
    or moving heavy objects
•   Making or Fixing Things Using your hands and/or tools to make or fix objects that you can see and
    touch
•   Public Contact     Providing information to the public, talking to people outside your organization
•   Independence Being able to determine the nature of work without significant direction or
    instructions from others, deciding how and when to do your work
