This document outlines details for tracking user activity and progress in courses on an LMS system. It discusses setting up a test site and database for tracking entries by users, modules, activities, and other metrics. It also provides guidance on displaying tracking data in charts and dashboards to measure completion rates, scores, and overall user performance.
1. 1. Test site located at https://10.0.1.40/LMSs/bridgeUCopy (internal) or https://50.79.236.167/LMSs/bridgeUCopy
(external).
2. This tracking mechanism will be used to track courses within our LMS and in other 3rd party LMS’s or websites.
3. Use LMS to implement Intelligence/Traintel tab.
4. The left nav will only contain a link for PCI Compliance at this time. Additional reports and charts will be added
later.
5. Try to use charts and table styles from https://code.google.com/apis/ajax/playground. (we put some sample charts
on the test site)
6. Prototype DB for tracking is located at www.venzagroup.com/phpmyadmin. (same credentials as
training.passkey.com) (CustomerTrainingTracking)
7. DB can be redesigned for optimization and to better match development needs. (alert us to changes so we can
update course player and/or PHP DB files)
8. PHP files for DB calls located at www.venzagroup.com/TrainingTracker. (use same credentials as
training.passkey.com to access FTP) (files can be rewritten, combined, moved to LMS directory, but I need to know
so we can update course player script)
9. We want to try and track each entry by a user to their LMS group and follow standard hierarchy rules for viewing
the dashboard charts. Entries that come from external LMS’s will be grouped by the Company that is passed in
each entry. (uses Company table as company name)
10. Session ID was used to test the Flash player ability to pass and tie each entry to one session. If there is another
better way (i.e., create activity entry first and then attach each entry to that activity OR create module entry and
attach each new activity to the module) that is fine.
11. Only one entry per user per activity should be counted for the dashboard. If a user has multiple entries for one
activity, simulation, quiz, or scenario, the most recent entry should be used. (we need to discuss how we track
individual questions vs. the quiz in comparison to the scenarios and simulations)
12. For bar charts and percentage numbering, if the score is failing, the number and the bar will be red and if passing,
it should be green.
2.
3. • Activity – logs entry each time a user completes a quiz, simulation or scenario
• Company – entries that will be inserted into the course player xml node for externally
housed courses in client’s own LMS or website
• Module – logs entry each time a user completes a module
• PCIMerchantCategory – not used at this time
• PCISecurityCategory – 6 PCI categories that may be used by later reports. These are linked
by the requirements table
• PCISecurityRequirement – 12 PCI requirements that will be passed by course player for
activities taken
• Questions – logs entry each time a user answers a question (may be multiples entries /
questions for each activity logged above)
• Scenarios – logs entry each time a user selects an option (may be multiples entries /
selections for each activity logged above)
• Simulations – logs entry each time a user interacts with the simulation (assessment only)
(may be multiples entries / interactions for each activity logged above)
