  • This presentation is no longer accurate. The co-rec has, for at least the last semester, set up more table tennis tables in the large open room on the second floor which is much larger and provides plenty of space for play. The room also accommodates up to six tables and Purdue Intramurals hold competitions for table tennis each year along with the other 'popular' sports.

Purdue Co-Rec

  1. 1. PURDUE RECREATIONAL FACILITY
  2. 2. What is the Co-Rec? The Purdue Co-Rec is a facility that allows students to have an active lifestyle and helps them stay in shape and keeps them healthy through sports and other aerobic activities. It has many different options for you to choose from, but the real question is all of them fair?
  3. 3. At the Co-Rec, the “normal” activities include basketball, lifting weights, and cardio. As a result, these activities have more space then the “less” normal ones like boxing.
  4. 4. MAP OF CO-REC
  5. 5. BASKETBALL HERE Basketball is HERE considered a normal sport for people to play and takes up a large amount of the Co- Rec.
  6. 6. HERE HERE IT IS ALSO LOCATED…
  7. 7. WEIGHT LIFTING AND CARDIO Weight Colby Lifting and Fitness Cardio are Center two activities that take up a good amount of space at the Co- Rec.
  8. 8. These two activities actually take up the whole lower level HERE of the Co- Rec.
  9. 9. BUT IS THIS FAIR..?
  10. 10. TABLE TENNIS Table Tennis or Ping Pong is a liked sport by many, but is not considered “normal.” Because of this, it has very little space to play and maneuver in.
  11. 11. The little orange box shows the only place in the Co-Rec where you can play table tennis. The room is actually where the service elevator is. This HERE shows how the sport is unimportant to the facility. But it may be important to others
  12. 12. Volleyball and Badminton are also two sports that are pretty well liked by many, but do not have the same treatment as something as popular as basketball. These are the only two spaces where these sports can be played.
  13. 13. Overall, through these space, Purdue actually is telling what sports are the normal sports to play and what is important. These spaces show that you can play these sports, but they are not as popular and you will not receive the same kind of attention that they would give to the normal sports and they will give you the least amount of space needed to play it. I definitely feel this is unfair. If more space was provided for these less normal sports, I feel that they would become more popular indefinitely.
