The Langtang trek is hidden between the high Himalayan range, 150km north of Kathmandu. It is easily
accessible and offers trekkers an authentic cultural experience, spectacular natural beauty, magical mountain
scenery with numerous glaciers, waterfalls and a wide diversity of flora and fauna. This is an idyllic trekking
area for “beginners” and families – with friendly tea houses in every village to accommodate you. A good
variety of meals are on offer.
A 7-8 hour switchback drive through fascinating Middle Hill forest and terraced farming country takes you to
Dhunche at a comfortable1950m. The trail ascends gradually through rhododendron and bamboo forests,
assisting acclimatization with gradual effort. It passes through both Tamang and Tibetan settlements.
The Langtang valley trekking region is inhabited by Tamang; a friendly people originally from Tibet, with
their own culture, architecture and lifestyle. Gompas, mani walls and colourful prayer flags are attractive
features along the way.
As the trail rises towards Kyanjin Gompa (3870m), forests and terraced fields give way to scrub vegetation
and open rocky ground. A rest and acclimatisation day is set aside here with the option to trek to viewpoints at
4600m on Tserko Ri. Wonderful views of Langtang Lirung (7227m) and its glaciers are possible from here, or
more closely from a walk towards its base camp. The village has a cheese factory supported by the Swiss
government.
The return trek takes a slightly different route. Days can be added to this trek to further explore the region.
For this trek you will need to have sturdy boots, warm and waterproof clothing, a good sleeping bag, a day
pack, camera sunscreen and a hat. Our certified and experienced trek-leaders and staff will see to your safety,
good health and enjoyment. Our Langtang trekking package includes transport, local porters, meals,
accommodation and safe drinking water. Spring (March - May) and autumn (September - November) are the
best months to trek, but we offer this trek in all four seasons.
