9. What happened to St. Mary? St. Mary obeyed the words of Jesus Christ her Son on the Cross and stayed at the house of St. John the beloved. “the Lord commanded her saying, "Woman behold your Son," and to St. John, "Behold your Mother.“ ( John 19: 26-27)
11. It was time to go home… St. Mary lived to be 60 years old. 3 years with her mother and father 9 years in the temple 30 years in the house of St. Joseph 14 years in the care of St. John the Beloved. While she was praying, the Holy Spirit told her that she was going to die. All the disciples and some virgins of the Mt. of Olives (Zeiton) came to her to bless them and say goodbye.
12. Jesus honors His mother Our Lord Jesus Christ + His angels + His saints came in a celebration from the sky to receive the soul of St. Mary. Honor your mother and father as Jesus Christ honored His mother.
13. A miracle on the way.. The disciples shrouded her body. On their way to bury her, some Jews stopped them. One of them seized the coffin His hands were cut of from his body and remained hanging, until he repented. The disciples prayed for him and he was healed back to normal.
14. St. Thomas saw the Virgin St. Thomas was not there when she departed. He came late after she was buried. As he was walking back from Jerusalem he heard a voice say: “Hurry up to receive the blessing of the body of the Pure Mary.” He saw the angels carrying the body of St. Mary and rising up to heaven
15. “I will not believe” When St. Thomas arrived to the disciples they told him that St. Mary departed and they buried her. He replied: “ I will not believe, unless I see her body, as you all know how I did doubt the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ before.”
16. Our Lord honors His mother They took him to the tomb, to uncover the body but they did not find it!!! St. Thomas told them what he saw before, on his way back: “The pure body ascending to heaven, carried by angels.” The Holy Spirit told the disciples that “The Lord did not Will to leave Her Holy body on earth”
17. Jesus promises the disciples The other disciples wished that they saw what St. Thomas saw and to see her pure body again. They fasted for 15 days and finally on 16th of Misra (Aug. 22) it was granted to them.
18. The exalted Mother of God They saw her sitting on the right hand of her Son and her Lord, surrounded by the angelic Hosts. For she is more honorable than the cherubim and more glorious beyond compare than the seraphim. As David has said: “At your right hand stands the queen.” (Psalm 45:9)
19. Full of Grace St. Mary was Obedient and God clearly chose her to honor her by taking flesh from her. He came to earth to be like us: His Creation = in the form of man to save us from sin. Archangel Gabriel told her: “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” (Luke 1:28)
20. Mary = “exalted one” If God himself has exalted her, we also ought to honor her! “For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.” (Luke 1:48)
21.
22. May Her Intercession be with us. Amen. Through the intercession of the Theotokos, St. Mary O Lord, grant us the forgiveness of our sins. We worship You, O Christ, with Your good Father, And the Holy Spirit for You have come and saved us. A Mercy of peace, A Sacrifice of Praise.
23. Objective God honors those who love Him. Memory verse: “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” (Luke 1:28)
25. First to receive Jesus Christ St. Mary was the first one to receive Christ! (physically in her womb) We can also receive him within us! By asking God to change us to be more like Him, so that our bodies can be a temple where He can live. A clean tablet for His fingers to write on.
26. Emmanuel= God with us King Soliman build a great Temple where God can live: The house of the Lord in Jerusalem He brought the ark of the covenant to the Temple Inside the ark: The golden pot that had the manna Aaron’s rod that had budded The tablets with the ten commandments given to Moses written by the fingers of God
27. “ and the trumpeters and singers were as one voice in sounding the trumpet and singing and in praising and thanking the Lord. And when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, they praised the Lord saying: “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, For His mercy endures forever.” The house was filled with a cloud of the Lord’s glory.” (2 Chronicles 5:13)
28. Symbols The ark = St. Mary “Theotokos = God-bearer” The tablets = Jesus Christ, the incarnated word of God. The ark brought to the temple placed in the Holy of Holies = St. Mary’s Departure to Jesus Christ Born on the shoulders of the apostles Angels overshadowed it with their wings With all the assembly of the church “brought in her soul through angels to the true Holy of Holies” (JohnDm) The house = Jesus Christ fully man (temple of His body) The cloud= Jesus Christ fully God (the glory of the Lord)
