LEADERSHIP WARFARE: AN INSIDE OUT 
A WORKSHOP ON 
THE BHAGAVAD-GITA for “LEADER” DEVELOPMENT 
“You cannot succeed as a leader unless you develop the intellect, which controls the mind and body.” 
The Bhagavad-Gita is considered to be one of the greatest ancient philosophical books the world has ever known. The Bhagavad-Gita has recently made a dramatic impact at Harvard, Wharton and other business schools. The teachings of the Bhagavad-Gita are universal as it is often referred to as the “Handbook for Humanity”. The universal application of the Bhagavad- Gita, when correctly understood and practiced, will enable us to deal with all types of leadership conflicts in life and in organisations. 
Workshop Objectives 
This workshop will create an awareness to the participants which will latter enable them to manifest the latent qualities of functional, emotional and spiritual excellence to increase their leadership effectiveness besides strengthening their own “Self” to face any crisis and battles in their life and organisation. 
Workshop Contents – The Bhagavad-Gita 
 The philosophy of “leader” development from the Bhagavad-Gita; 
 The leadership war from within and how to win the war within you?
 Yoga of understanding the “Self” and developing your self-awareness; 
 Yoga of action, knowledge and detachment for leaders; 
 Leading change and “dharmic” orientated leadership approaches; 
 Leadership learning, development of human values and qualities; 
 The leadership of your mind and the application of the “chariot” model; 
 Knowing the principles of “leader” development and what’s next? 
Methodology 
The workshop is participatory with short lectures and discussions. Participants are encouraged to contribute their own experience and issues related to leader development. This is in accordance with research on adult learning, which shows that a deeper level of learning occurs when there is active participation on the part of the participants. 
Designed For 
This workshop has been designed for leaders such as directors, managers and executives and anyone who is interested in understanding and developing their leadership potential from the Bhagavad-Gita. 
Workshop Facilitator 
Dr. Balakrishnan Muniapan [BEcons (UKM), CIWT (AUST), MSc(HRM) (UK), DBA (Philippines)] is a specialist in HRM and is currently based in Penang with WOU. He has previously held Senior Lecturer positions at Swinburne University of Technology, Curtin University of Technology (Sarawak Campus), BIMC in Beijing (China) and at DISTED in Penang. Prior to his involvement in academic, he was in production management with Sharp Roxy Corporation, at his hometown in Sungai Petani, Kedah (Malaysia). Dr Bala has been recognized for his HRM teaching and research excellence within Malaysia and in Asia. He was conferred the “Best Professor in HRM” award at the World Education Congress, Asia’s Education Excellence Award 2014 in Singapore for his contributions as an educator and an interdisciplinary researcher in the field of HRM wisdom. He has also been a Visiting Professor in HRM for universities and management
institutes in the Philippines, Vietnam and India and has served as an external examiner for DBA/PhD thesis in HRM for universities in Malaysia, India, Vietnam, and the Philippines. In academia, Dr Bala has published over fifty research papers and articles in several international journals, conference proceedings, and book chapters; and was the recipient of the Best Research Paper award at the 3rd National (Malaysia) HRM Conference in 2006. As a HRM speaker, Dr Bala is frequently honored as an invited speaker on people management issues at numerous national and international conferences and seminars. He has presented papers on HRM at conferences, seminars and delivered talks in several countries within Asia, Australia, Africa and Europe. Dr Bala is PSMB (Malaysia) Certified Trainer (Exemption No: EMP/0899) and ACAP (Australia) Certified Workplace Trainer (Certificate Level IV). As a HRM trainer and consultant, Dr Bala has vast experience in conducting training and consultancy programs in HRM areas related to Managing Industrial Relations, Misconduct and Domestic Inquiry Procedures, Employment Terminations, Performance Management, Leadership Development and Conflict Management and have contributed tremendously towards HRM effectiveness for more than hundred organizations within Malaysia and in Asia. LEADERSHIP WARFARE: AN INSIDE OUT A WORKSHOP ON THE BHAGAVAD-GITA for “LEADER” DEVELOPMENT “You cannot succeed as a leader unless you develop the intellect, which controls the mind and body.” The Bhagavad-Gita is considered to be one of the greatest ancient philosophical books the world has ever known. The Bhagavad-Gita has recently made a dramatic impact at Harvard, Wharton and other business schools. The teachings of the Bhagavad-Gita are universal as it is often referred to as the “Handbook for Humanity”. The universal application of the Bhagavad- Gita, when correctly understood and practiced, will enable us to deal with all types of leadership conflicts in life and in organisations. Workshop Objectives This workshop will create an awareness to the participants which will latter enable them to manifest the latent qualities of functional, emotional and spiritual excellence to increase their leadership effectiveness besides strengthening their own “Self” to face any crisis and battles in their life and organisation. Workshop Contents – The Bhagavad-Gita  The philosophy of “leader” development from the Bhagavad-Gita;  The leadership war from within and how to win the war within you?
  • 2.  Yoga of understanding the “Self” and developing your self-awareness;  Yoga of action, knowledge and detachment for leaders;  Leading change and “dharmic” orientated leadership approaches;  Leadership learning, development of human values and qualities;  The leadership of your mind and the application of the “chariot” model;  Knowing the principles of “leader” development and what’s next? Methodology The workshop is participatory with short lectures and discussions. Participants are encouraged to contribute their own experience and issues related to leader development. This is in accordance with research on adult learning, which shows that a deeper level of learning occurs when there is active participation on the part of the participants. Designed For This workshop has been designed for leaders such as directors, managers and executives and anyone who is interested in understanding and developing their leadership potential from the Bhagavad-Gita. Workshop Facilitator Dr. Balakrishnan Muniapan [BEcons (UKM), CIWT (AUST), MSc(HRM) (UK), DBA (Philippines)] is a specialist in HRM and is currently based in Penang with WOU. He has previously held Senior Lecturer positions at Swinburne University of Technology, Curtin University of Technology (Sarawak Campus), BIMC in Beijing (China) and at DISTED in Penang. Prior to his involvement in academic, he was in production management with Sharp Roxy Corporation, at his hometown in Sungai Petani, Kedah (Malaysia). Dr Bala has been recognized for his HRM teaching and research excellence within Malaysia and in Asia. He was conferred the “Best Professor in HRM” award at the World Education Congress, Asia’s Education Excellence Award 2014 in Singapore for his contributions as an educator and an interdisciplinary researcher in the field of HRM wisdom. He has also been a Visiting Professor in HRM for universities and management
  • 3. institutes in the Philippines, Vietnam and India and has served as an external examiner for DBA/PhD thesis in HRM for universities in Malaysia, India, Vietnam, and the Philippines. In academia, Dr Bala has published over fifty research papers and articles in several international journals, conference proceedings, and book chapters; and was the recipient of the Best Research Paper award at the 3rd National (Malaysia) HRM Conference in 2006. As a HRM speaker, Dr Bala is frequently honored as an invited speaker on people management issues at numerous national and international conferences and seminars. He has presented papers on HRM at conferences, seminars and delivered talks in several countries within Asia, Australia, Africa and Europe. Dr Bala is PSMB (Malaysia) Certified Trainer (Exemption No: EMP/0899) and ACAP (Australia) Certified Workplace Trainer (Certificate Level IV). As a HRM trainer and consultant, Dr Bala has vast experience in conducting training and consultancy programs in HRM areas related to Managing Industrial Relations, Misconduct and Domestic Inquiry Procedures, Employment Terminations, Performance Management, Leadership Development and Conflict Management and have contributed tremendously towards HRM effectiveness for more than hundred organizations within Malaysia and in Asia.
