Registration open for Heights chamber golf tourney
1. Registration open for Heights chamber golf tourney
Area golfers have until Oct. 1 to register for the Greater Heights Area Chamber of Commerce Golf
Classic.
The tournament, in its 19th year, will be Oct. 6 at Cypress Lakes Golf Course, 18700 Cypresswood
Drive in Cypress. The tournament will start at noon with a four-player scramble format.
The registration fee is $500 for a foursome or $150 for individual players. The fee includes lunch and
dinner, a free round of golf at the Cypresswood Lakes course at another date and a discount
certificate for the purchase of a wedge or hybrid club.
The tournament is also offering players the opportunity to purchase a Super Ticket for $40 on
tournament day. The ticket includes mulligans, raffle tickets and the opportunity to play a scratch-off
game on the ticket card. The player with the longest drive will win a three-day, two-night vacation to
a resort.
This year's tournament will have a slightly different approach to determining first- and second-place
2. teams, chamber communications director Larry Plasek said in a written statement.
"The chamber is using a new process where the top four teams at the end of the round are paired up
on the 18th hole and will have two playoff holes to determine the first- and second-place winning
teams," he said.
Also, instead of a trophy, this year's winning team will receive a "sports fan's dream pack," Plasek
said, consisting of four lower-level tickets to a Houston Rockets game courtesy of Memorial
Hermann Northwest Hospital, and four tickets to the Shell Houston Open courtesy of the Houston
Golf Association. The second-place team will win more than $350 in free food and drinks at Lilo
Ella's and Piatto's Ristorante.
The tournament's Platinum sponsor is Houston Highway Credit Union. Additional sponsors include
Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital, Memorial Hermann Medical Group, Silver Eagle and Colby
Resources.
Last year's event raised $13,000, chamber president Jacob Millwee said.
The business networking organization serves companies from Buffalo Bayou to north of Oak Forest.
In addition to networking opportunities, the chamber provides members with referrals, community
exposure and business education programs.
At least 5 percent of funds raised through tournament sponsorships, player entry fees and Super
Tickets sales will go into the chamber's Community Fund, which supports the group's charitable
activities. Other revenue will go toward supporting and improving chamber programs, Millwee said.
The funds allow the chamber to keep its membership dues as affordable as possible, he added.
