Editor's Notes

  1. Good morning/afternoon! Thank you for being here today and above all for your on-going partnership. I’m feeling really excited to tell you all about the big plans we have cued up for 2012! I probably don’t need to tell you that Nickelodeon is one of the world’s most recognized brands for kids and families. It’s also the most widely distributed -- we are more global than ever before. And we feel great about the incredible potential that offers you, our partners.
  2. Nickelodeon’s reach is enormous. First and foremost, in the U.S. over 81MM viewers tune in each week to our 5 TV Networks - covering every demographic from preschoolers to adults. Globally, we have 50 channels serving nearly 350 million people in 25 languages. On top of this viewership, 40 million people use Nick online sites every month and on Facebook we have more than 100MM fans. Our consumer products business is thriving. In 2011, our properties generated $4B at retail. We will tell you today about how our portfolio will drive big gains in the next few years. In music, we recently sold out two nationwide tours, the Fresh Beat Band and Big Time Rush. And over 30 million guests each year visit our family entertainment experiences, from cruises to branded attractions around the world. This year we opened new attractions in Australia and the UK and in 2012 we’ll be on even more cruise ships. Finally, we’re at the movies. Last year, our sister company, Paramount Pictures, announced the launch of Paramount Animation. This in-house animation division will develop a broad range of family films with a focus on Nickelodeon's portfolio.Across all these platforms, our pro-social initiatives, under the umbrella of The Big Help, continue to strengthen the connection with our audience. We’re not just connecting with their heads; we’re connecting with their hearts. Let’s take a look at Nickelodeon in 2012.
  3. Staying relevant is what makes us successful. To make sure we continue to be on the cutting edge of kids trends and to ensure our content and products hit the mark, we do more research with kids and their families than anyone else. This past year we conducted over 350 focus groups and surveyed nearly 30,000 kids and parents.  A few notable projects we did this year:We explored kids relationships with mobile technology. In this study we learned that more so than adults, kids (as digital natives) expect content to move as freely between screens and platforms as they do. And Preschoolers are more comfortable on the tablet than on the computer‘Un-Mommed’, a Mom Deprivation Study, took moms out of their homes for 2 days to see how they and the families coped in her absence. Interestingly, moms found it hard to relax once they got away as they missed their families– proving that with or without her family, there is no such thing as ‘mommy mode’ or ‘me mode.’ She is 100% mom all the timeAnd, our Global Kids Influence study looked at the impact kids have on purchase behavior. And boy do they have influence! The family dynamic has evolved into a new space with parents placing the kids at the center of the family universeAnd in 2012: Our Millennial Study will examine attitudes about growing up and parentingWe’ll also dive into kids and moms motivations when buying toys If you are interested in learning more about these studies, we would be happy to come back and give you a complete presentation. The depth and breadth of our research is unparalleled. That’s what sets Nick apart - yesterday, today and tomorrow. We know that that’s the way we deliver more value for you, our partners. (IF YOU ARE ATTACHING THE UBER TO ANY OTHER MODULE OTHER THAN KID. THE UBER PRESENTATION SHOULD END AND SEGUE INTO YOUR SELECTED MODULE FROM THIS POINT)(FOR KID MODULE – USE THE FOLLOWING SEGUE…)Before we tell you about our 2012 plans, we thought we should take a look at the kids landscape…
  4. Despite several new entrants into the Kid’s TV space, it remains a 3-horse race. The five smaller networks are serving more specific kids niches and have relatively small audiences.
  5. Meanwhile, other devices are also vying for kids’ attention. At Nick, we are watching these kids wherever they are. And to stay relevant, we are creating content and experiences for them everywhere. A few numbers help paint the picture of where today kids are spending time:64.8% of kids have their own Nintendo DS or DSi21.8% of Kids have their own cell phone18.5% of kids have their own PSP15.3% of kids have their own iPod Touch, 3.8% have an iPhone and 2.7% have an iPadWe have a deep understanding of it all: The new players in the market, the new devices, the new platforms and how kids consume the content. And in the end…
  6. These platforms are making the hits even bigger than ever!!!What energizes us is how new platforms enable us to reinterpret our content and to constantly innovate. Here’s a look at what we mean…
  7. So now, we’d like to tell you about our plans for 2012 and the things that Nickelodeon has in store…We know we have a big responsibility to you and we take that seriously. We have 3 goals that we’ll walk you through today that will strengthen our business, keep us relevant and thriving and afford opportunities for you:Keep the hits comingDeliver big events, TV movies and pro-social opportunitiesContinue to extend our content and audiences across multiple platformsSo let’s get to it…
  8. Goal #1 has two components:The first is to deliver fresh content for our biggest properties and the…Second is to create the next generation of hits
  9. We’ll start with our top properties, which we plan to keep thriving. These shows have become household names. They span multiple genres and hit a wide range of demos. This year we promise to deliver more fresh episodes and events of these big hits. In preschool, Dora, Team Umizoomi and Bubble Guppies will lead the way with all new episodes, specials, merchandise and apps .For kids who love animation, we have new episodes and specials of favorites like KungFu Panda, Penguins of Madagascar, T.U.F.F. Puppy and the Fairly Odd Parents. And as we approach the 200th episode of SpongEBob, we have no plans to stop!
  10. We’ll have more premieres, quarterly tentpoles and for the first time ever, for holiday 2012, we’ll have a SpongeBob special featuring stop motion animation.
  11. In live action, we’re proud of our line-up, which includes four bona-fide hits. First is iCarly, which always delivers huge ratings with every premiere – stay tuned for more in Season 5. Next is Big Time Rush, Nick’s boy band, who this Spring star in their very own TV Movie and have a sold-out nationwide tour. Victorious, the #2 show after iCarly, with girls in all of TV, only after iCarly, gets funnier this season. And finally, this year’s House of Anubis mystery has tweens on the edge of their seats.
  12. But what I really want to emphasize today is the new shows that will augment these favorites. With a slate of the next generation of hits on deck, it’s going to be a big year for Nickelodeon Animation. First up…
  13. This year, the Turtles will finally be back! The CG animation style will be innovative and fresh, while nodding to the original to appeal to its millions of core fans, many of whom have kids of their own. And we’ve committed to 52 episodes out of the gate. The fan community is already buzzing about the new show. You won’t be able to hide from turtle fever with:An all new TMNT ride at the Mall of America opening in MarchA new online site launch on Nick.com in AprilToys at retail in Aug, followed by apparel and accessoriesA new App/Mobile Game in over the summerAll leading up to the Sept 2012 TV launch. And the momentum will continue as our partner, Paramount Pictures, releases the epic new theatrical with director Michael Bay.
  14. Next, fans of “Avatar, the Last Airbender” have been begging for more ever since the series ended. And now a new heroine is about to rise up this April!Let’s take a look…
  15. And to round out our animation slate, we will add three more brand new series. Raving Rabbids is a hilarious adaptation of the hit video game from Ubisoft. With more than XMM games sold worldwide, these characters are already well known to kids
  16. Winx Club. We introduced this show in 2011 with content imported from Europe, and this fall we get serious with these fairies as we introduce 52 new CG animated episodes alongside a major retail program
  17. Robot and Monster is our next hilarious duo to follow in SpongeBob & Patrick’s footsteps
  18. To summarize animation, with 5 new projects, our pipeline is richer than it’s been in years.
  19. And we’ve got big news in Live Action as well. How To Rock, our next music-based series launched February 4th to a strong start. Research tells us that music is incredibly important to kids, so it’s incredibly important to Nick as well. Starring up-and-comer Cymphonique Miller, the show is about a girl who becomes the lead singer of a school band that wants to be the best. It’s a comedy with great original music and the social stakes girls are looking for.
  20. Next up, YouTube sensation Fred Figglehorn gets his own series. With nearly 1 Billion YouTube streams, Fred was a perfect match for Nickelodeon. In 2010, we released Fred: The Movie, which was seen by 9 million viewers. In 2011 we had another ratings hit with the Halloween movie, Fred 2: Night of the Living Fred.Kids know and love Fred and later this month they can see more of him every week on Fred: The Show. And finally, our development slate is robust, with a few more projects you’ll hear more about soon:We have exciting new projects in development with some of the members of the iCarly castAnd, from pilots currently in production, we'll pick two more original live action series to premiere later in the year
  21. Last but not least, preschool. This year will be our biggest year ever with more than 200 new episodes. This Spring several new shows join the line-up, starting with Mike the Knight in February. Mike is already a huge hit in the UK and we expect this mighty knight to come out swinging in the U.S. as well. Two other projects also coming soon are Franklin and Friends and Tickety Toc. At the end of 2012 we’re breathing new life into a classic. Nickelodeon will be re-imagining Peter Rabbit in an exciting adventure CG series! This timeless classic has been delighting generations for 100+ years –with more than 250MM books sold.
  22. Moving on to GOAL #2…It wouldn’t be Nickelodeon without can’t –miss signature events, original TV Movies and great pro-social opportunities
  23. First up…The KCAs is a true global success story – airing in 191 countries and in 300 million households. Last year’s show was the biggest global KCA’s ever and delivered over 7MM viewers and 200MM votes in the U.S. 2012 marks the 25th anniversary of the Kids’ Choice Awards and it will be bigger and better than ever, hosted by Will Smith
  24. Next, we have the WWDOP – In partnership with the First Lady’s “Let’s Move” Campaign and the President’s Council on Physical Fitness. In September we took over the Ellipse in Washington DC for the biggest celebration of Play anyone has ever created! It’s big, it’s global and it makes a difference for kids. 55,000 people participated in DC alone with over 5000 local events in 20 countries. Health & fitness is important to kids, and it’s important to Nick.
  25. Lastly, the HALO Awards, a star-studded celebration of teens who support causes that are important to them. In 2011, the HALO Awards was bigger than ever, with the Sunday night broadcast ranking #1 versus all other ad-supported cable networks in its time period on P/W 12-17!Let’s take a look at our exciting events…
  26. We’re working overtime in 2012, bringing you movies too.We mentioned Fred: The Show earlier, but we’re not stopping there. This summer, Fred goes to camp for his third original TV movie.
  27. Fairly Odd Parents Movie – On the heels of the success of last year’s FOP: Grow up Timmy Turner, Drake Bell is back for what’s sure to become a Christmas classic. And if fairies aren’t enough, this movie also has elves.
  28. Big Time Movie – Premiering on March 10, 2012 – The group sets out on their first world tour and winds up mixed up in a James Bond-like mission. The movie features covers of classic Beatles songs including Help! and A Hard Day's Night, and songs from Big Time Rush's newest album.
  29. Rags – This modern-day Cinderella story stars Keke Palmer, and Nickelodeon up-and-comer Max Schneider from How to Rock. From producer Nick Cannon, the movie includes fresh original music as well as a love story.Let’s take a sneak peek at Big Time Movie and Rags…
  30. So finally, I’d like to turn to all the places you can find this great Nickelodeon content. Goal # 3 is to continue to extend our content and audiences across multiple platforms – and we’re doing just that. Our digital plans include great content – from videos to games – everywhere kids are. I’ll tell you about three digital highlights today.
  31. First, our newest tablet led initiative is particularly exciting.  Inside Nick, launching in Summer 2012, is a behind-the-scenes window for kids into our talent and shows.  With all “original–for-digital” content, we’ll bring our fans even deeper and closer to all that we have to offer on a dedicated app and on nick.com.
  32. Second, Monkey Quest. As you may know, Monkey Quest launched in April 2011. It is a virtual world with 8 million registered users. It’s off to an incredible start and in December its success led us to compliment the online game with an app.
  33. Third, we are taking a leadership position in apps for kids, With more than 80% of kids on mobile devices, we know we need to be there. We’ve already launched X apps and we have more than 20 more in development. These apps span from Team Umizoomi math apps for preschoolers to SB to brand new original IPs.
  34. That wraps up our 3 goals for Nick. So to recap… #1. We’ll keep the hits coming by delivering More fresh content for our biggest properties and…To serving up the next generation of hits#2. We’ll deliver big events, TV movies and pro-social opportunities and…#3. We’ll continue to extend our content and audiences across multiple platformsWith a clear plan we’ll continue to strengthen our business, keep us relevant and thriving – which will deliver more opportunities for you.
  35. But to remain real leaders with each and every demo in a competitive landscape, one network isn't enough. For nearly 10 years, we’ve been honing and cultivating separate TV screens to even better serve all kids, all the time. Well, in 2012 we are even more focused on making each of these networks work even harder for Nick overall.Nick Jr. will continue to super-serve preschoolers and moms.Nicktoons is Nick’s home for boys – serving up action, adventure and comedy. And finally, TeenNick will give teens and young adults more of what they want all day long.
  36. Let’s take a closer look at Nicktoons specifically…
  37. … as you can see, Nicktoons offers content that boys love. Through our research, we know that boys crave animation that’s adrenaline packed. And the network’s results over the past 5 years confirm that we’re heading in the right direction.Nicktoons wrapped up 2011 with its highest ratings and viewership ever. It also completed the year with boys making up 74% of its core K6-11 demo, which makes it THE most boy skewing kids network for in all of television. NOTE TO PRESENTER: Disney XD is 62% in case anyone asks
  38. These great results stem from a line-up of exclusive boy-targeted content including Iron Man: Armored Adventures, Voltron Force, Speed Racer and Dragon Ball Z Kai. In fact, more than 70% of the network’s content is exclusive to Nicktoons. And the network is also a place where boys can get more of their favorite Nick animated hits like Fanboy and Chum Chum, Invader Zim and Avatar: The Last Airbender.
  39. What’s particularly exciting about Nicktoons performance is that several shows are delivering boys ratings that are REALLY big. And that has given us the confidence to increase our original investment in 2012.
  40. This year, 5 brand new series join the line-up, starting with two incredibly exciting projects with built-in equity from brands and partners who we know will deliver:In April: Wild Grinders comes from Rob Dyrdek – star of hit shows Rob & Big and Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory. [Optional description: Wild Grinders is a animated comedy about quick-thinking skater kid Lil Rob, his talking dog Meaty, his best friend Goggles and their middle school skate crew. The series follows the Grinders on their adventures around their hometown of Sprawl City and at their beloved skate spot.] Next, we’re thrilled to introduce a longform version of NFL Rush Zone, which started its life back in 2010 as a short form idea. The half hour series is a co-production between the NFL and Nicktoons.  [Optiional description: There’s new danger, a new villain, a new story line, lots of NFL (players, stadiums, football)...and our hero "ISH,” who has the power to save us all.]
[NOTE: ONLY DESCRIBE THE LAST 3 IF ASKED]In addition, Dragon Ball GT – the next installment of the hit property – just launched in January with 99 new episodes. Ten years have passed since Goku left his friends and family to hone his skills. Now he’s getting ready to blast off into the outer reaches of space in search of the mysterious Blackstar Dragon balls. In February Monsuno joins the line-up - Millions of years ago, Monsuno, a living DNA that burrows into a planet’s core and brings about its destruction, landed on Earth. The impact drove the dinosaurs to extinction but then something caused the Monsuno DNA to go dormant. Then a scientist unwittingly reactivated it, setting the wheels in motion for the end of the world. Now it’s up to his son to learn the secrets of Monsuno and crack the ultimate code. And finally, in October, we launch an original live action project. Black Dawn is a science fiction action-adventure series about 16-year-old Cameron Turner’s search for his lost father. Along the way, clues in a comic book aid Cameron on his quest. As clues lead to truths, Cameron will discover that his responsibilities are not just ordinary, but extraordinary, and that his journey is not about becoming just a man, but a hero.
  41. And lastly, Nickelodeon will continue to deliver best-in-class integrated marketing solutions for you, our partners.Take a look some of work we’ve done with recently…CHOICES INCLUDE:PlaytexQuakerKinectToyota SafetyOPTION 2: Sales person can opt to add in their own case study/logo/video to demonstrate
  42. In closing, we know what kids want and we’re going to deliver it… not only because we’re everywhere they are, but because we know how they want to experience it… on TV, digitally and on the ground. We hope you have a better understanding of how we intend to keep Nickelodeon’s business on top, relevant and impactful to our audiences. We will keep the hits coming, deliver big events, TV Movies and pro-social opportunities, extend our content across multiple platforms and continue to create and deliver exactly what you need, BEST-IN-CLASS marketing solutions. All this keeps the Nick fire burning!Thank you and have a great day!
