1. Clean India Green India Should Be Our Dream India
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was launched with the mission to encourage and promote sanitation and
cleanliness in India. Ever since the mission was launched by our Honorable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra
Modi in 2014, people all around the country have been contributing in some way or the other to this
cleanliness journey. Rallies for cleaning rivers, beaches, roads, etc. have been around always, which has
motivated many individuals to contribute to the Clean India mission. But, over the years, the trend of
“Clean India'' has exponentially reduced. Although municipal corporations over the states work towards
daily garbage pick-up and disposal, regular sweeping of roads, setting up E-toilets, etc the common
awareness amongst citizens regarding cleanliness and sanitation has been a worrisome area.
Why Is Cleanliness Important?
One has learned about cleanliness and sanitation in their school textbooks, at home, on social media, and
on many such platforms. Maintaining cleanliness around oneself and in the immediate surroundings
shouldbe a priority for everyone. Throwing away used cups and water bottles in the trash can, any leftover
food, pieces of paper, flushing the toilet after use, sanitizing items at all times, etc. are basic etiquettes to
follow outside as well at home. Practicing cleanliness comes from within and is a conscious choice an
individual makes for themselves for their betterment.
If cleanliness is not performed, there can be many problems that will follow afterward. The covid-19
pandemic has indeed taught the importance of sanitation and cleanliness much more prominently. Lack
of cleanliness can lead to the spread of infectious and communicable diseases that can be extremely
harmful to humans. Just like personal hygiene keeps one away from diseases and keeps them healthy,
maintenance of cleanliness in public areas will help the community as a whole to stay away from fatal
diseases.
When our surroundings will be clean, people will be healthy. Clean India, Green India encourages a
healthy and disease-free lifestyle in the long run. A clean lifestyle not only means removing physical
garbage from the immediate surroundings but also encourages one to be organized in life. Swachh Bharat
Abhiyan was started with the aim of spreading awareness about public health and sanitation, along with
cleanliness around oneself. This initiative is indeed a mass movement across the nation, to build
consciousness about a clean environment.
One of the Fundamental Duties that are laid down in the Constitution says that “Strive towards excellence
in all spheres of individual and collective activity so that the nation constantly rises to higher levels of
endeavor and achievement”, and contribute towards a clean and green India mission and making India a
healthy, disease-free, clean country would be rising towards excellence and achievement.
