Dantes Alighieri

He wrote in a vernacular that we know today the Modern Italian
His work formed the bridge between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
Dante believed that an emperor should govern affairs of the state while the
pope's power should be confined to religious affairs.
Dante played a major role in standardizing the Italian language, coining new
words and paving the way for major works of literature written in the
vernacular

The Divine Comedy (La Divina Commedia)

Composed of three books, Inferno, Purgatory, and Paradise.
The Divine Comedy was still very religious like the Middle Ages; it was very
creative, rebellious, and contained mythology, which was non-Catholic.
The greatest long-sentence literature in Europe in the Middle Ages
