Baalbek was a major ancient city located in what is now Lebanon. At the heart of the Roman city were three temples raised in honor of Jupiter, Mercury, and Venus. Beneath the temple of Jupiter sits a mysterious feature - three enormous stones that formed the base of the temple. The origin and purpose of these exceptionally large stones is unknown. Nearby quarries contain even larger unfinished monoliths, adding to the mystery of the site.
