art A: Construction: As the “artist”, the student will create a “Culture Collage”and submit an image of it here (below). This becomes an artwork to be “deconstructed” and compared to a painting, later. (50 points) MyCultureSHAPEDme Collage_Part A: Assume YOU are a contemporary artist You will make an artwork that is relevant to your life, your world, your family & friends, your work, all or one of these. The two most important aspects of this assignment: *Your artwork must reflect what you feel is your particular CULTURE. *The way you put these pictures together must form a dominant SHAPE that makes visual sense. What is “CULTURE?” In general, the word culture means: the arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively. i.e.: "20th century popular culture" In biology: the word culture refers to the conditions suitable for growth, an artificial medium containing nutrients. SO: What is the "culture" that nourishes YOU? What is a COLLAGE? It is a piece of art made by sticking various different materials such as photographs and pieces of paper or fabric onto a backing. (From the French: coller, to glue, is a technique of an art production, primarily used in the visual arts, where the artwork is made from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole. ) You can add some drawing, painting, and your own photographs but must not rely on text in this assignment. ( i.e.: no titles- let the visuals tell the story...and be open to interpretation) This may also be partially or completely digitally created. How do I arrange the pieces of my life? The dominant Art Element for this assignment is SHAPE Your collage cannot attain 50 points without the arrangement/composition being UNIFIED in some strong visual way. Using the Art Element of SHAPE make all parts of your culture ideas/symbols work with that shape.
