John Maynard Keynes was a British economist who lived from 1883 to 1946. He is widely considered one of the founders of modern macroeconomics, and developed Keynesian economics, which emphasizes the importance of aggregate demand and income in an economy. Keynes argued that private sector decisions sometimes lead to inefficient macroeconomic outcomes which require active policy responses by governments and central banks.
