This document outlines 3 tours of historic and natural sites in Georgia:
The first tour is of Didgori, the site of a decisive 12th century Georgian victory over Seljuk invaders. The second tour explores the mountainous region of Khevsureti, visiting villages, canyons, and views. The third tour visits historic fortresses, monasteries, and ravines in the Javakheti region
3. Didgori is a historic place of Georgia,
while being an amazing place for hiking
and camping.
Didgori was the battlefield between the
armies of the Kingdom of Georgia and
the crumbling the Great Seliuq Empire
in XXII century. The battle resulted in
King David Iv of Georgia’s decisive
victory over a Seljuk invasion army and
subsequent re-conquest of a Muslim-
held Tbilisi, which became the royal
capital. The victory at Didgori
inaugurated medieval Georgia’s
“Golden Age" and is celebrated in the
Georgian chronicles as a "miraculous
victory“ while modern Georgians
continue to remember the event as an
annual September festival known as
Didgoroba.
7. Roshka (Khevsureti)
Beautiful views over Khevsureti and Davitjvari pass, Tebulo – the
highest peak of Khevsureti.
Along the views we will visit the place where river Assa Is getting it’s
origins and canyon, Known as the “Gate of Paradise”. We can also
see an expanding ravine encircled by mountains, villages “Akhieli”
and “Amgha” which have best preserved Khevsurian ethnicity.
