Facebook Causes Ranked

Editor's Notes

  1. Data in this chart is compiled weekly by the author from the Inside Facebook blog http://www.insidefacebook.com/ Page Stats Page Leaderboard Select “Non-Profit” in category drop-down menu The author, with 25+ years of experience in the nonprofit sector, reads through the organizations listed and selects only those known to be 501(c)(3)s. Limitations: Only organizations that have created “fan” pages and tagged them with the keyword “nonprofit” will show up in this list. Therefore, if an art museum (for example) only puts itself in the “museum” category, their page will not be ranked in the listing being used to create this chart. Key to the “Causes” listed on this chart (if not listed, cause and organization name are the same): LiveStrong = donations go to the Lance Armstrong Foundation Contact the author on twitter @JulieINK with questions, comments, complaints & suggestions.
  2. Data in this chart is compiled weekly by the author from the Facebook Causes Home Page http://apps.facebook.com/causes/?m=3f1cca43 > Find Causes > Browse Causes The Causes application auto-generates a list labeled “Displaying the top 5 causes by total members.” N.B. all these organizations list their geography as “global.” However, if you put the term “global” in the search window on this page, you get a completely different list of top Facebook Causes by membership. I am currently discussing this situation with Facebook Causes and hope to have an answer soon. The application will not auto-generate a list by top amount donated, but they do list the amount donated to each of the organizations with highest membership. Key to the “Causes” listed on this chart (if not listed, cause and organization name are the same): The Race to End Cancer = donations go to the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Campaign for Cancer Prevention = donations go to Brigham & Women’s Prevention Hospital Animal Rights = PETA Stop Animal Cruelty = donations go to the Humane Society of the U.S. Stop Global Warming = donations go to the Alliance for Climate Protection Contact the author on twitter @JulieINK with questions, comments, complaints & suggestions.
