A fisherman takes his beautiful boat out fishing as the last star in the cloudy sky sails by. As the mermaid sings beautifully, he carefully lays out his haul but must be cautious of his net not becoming entangled, lest he lose both oar and sail by getting distracted just by the sight of her. The poem addresses the fisherman in a repetitive refrain to take caution as he fishes.
