Start By:
A. Remove the torque converter. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Torque Converter -
Remove" for the machine that is being serviced.
B. Remove the transmission oil pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Transmission Oil
Pump - Remove" for the machine that is being serviced.
C. Remove the torque converter outlet relief valve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly,
"Relief Valve (Torque Converter Outlet) - Remove" for the machine that is being serviced.
D. Remove the modulating valve for the torque converter impeller clutch. Refer to
Disassembly and Assembly, "Modulating Valve (Torque Converter Impeller Clutch) -
Remove" for the machine that is being serviced.

1. Place the torque converter assembly (1) on suitable cribbing, as shown. The weight of
torque converter assembly (1) is approximately545 kg (1200 lb).
2. Remove bolt (2) and retainer (3) .
3. Remove O-ring seal (4) and yoke (5) .

4. Remove bolts (6) and the washers.
5. Install Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to the housing assembly. The weight of the
housing assembly is approximately 285 kg (630 lb).
6. Use Tooling (G) in order to separate the housing assembly from the torque converter.
7. Remove the housing assembly.

8. Remove bolts (7) and retainer (8) .
9. Remove seal (9) from retainer (8) .
10. Remove gasket (10) .

11. Remove O-ring seals (11) and (12) .
12. Remove bolts (13) . Do not remove two bolts (14) at this time.

13. Install Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to carrier assembly (15) . The weight of
carrier assembly (15) is approximately 160 kg (350 lb).
14. Remove carrier assembly (15) and the shaft as a unit.
15. Remove bearing (16) .
16. Remove the ring and the plate below bearing (16) .
17. Remove turbine (17) .

18. Remove the plate (not shown) and remove bearing (18) .
19. Remove the ring and the plate below bearing (18) .
20. Remove bearing cup (19) .

21. Use appropriate equipment in order to turn housing (20) onto the opposite side.
22. Remove O-ring seal (21) and two plugs (22) .
23. Remove bolts (23) and the washers from turbine (17) .
24. Remove plate (24) .
25. Remove hub (25) from turbine (17) .
26. Place torque converter assembly on suitable cribbing, as shown.

27. Remove retaining ring (26) and stator (27) .
28. Remove spacer (28) .
29. Remove bearing (29) .
30. Remove the plate and the ring below the bearing (29) .

31. Remove retaining ring (30) .
32. Use two persons in order to remove impeller (31) . The weight of impeller (31) is
approximately 30 kg (65 lb).
33. Remove plate (32a) , bearing (32b) , plate (32c) , and ring (32d) .
Note: Plate (32a) may stick to the impeller.
34. Remove bearing cup (33) from impeller (31) .

35. Remove bolts (34) and the washers.
36. Remove impeller (31) from adapter assembly (35) .
37. Remove bolts (14) .
38. Remove plate (36) .

39. Remove two friction discs (37) and one wear plate.
40. Remove piston (38) .
41. Use two persons in order to remove housing assembly (39) from shaft (40) . The weight of
housing assembly (39) is approximately 45 kg (100 lb).

42. Remove 12 bolts (41) and gear (42) from housing assembly (39) .

44. Remove bolts (44) and sleeve (45) .
45. Remove the ring seal from sleeve (45) .
46. Remove ring seal (46) .

49. Remove ring (49) .
50. Place shaft assembly in a suitable press. Carefully press inner shaft (50) from outer shaft
(51) .
51. Use a suitable press in order to remove bearing (52) and seal carrier (53) from inner shaft
(50) .

52. Use a hammer and a punch in order to remove pin (54) from outer shaft assembly (51) .
53. Use Tooling (D) in order to remove seal carrier (55) from outer shaft (51) .
54. Use Tooling (E) in order to remove bearing (56) from outer shaft (51) .

55. Remove retaining ring (57) and plate (58) from stator (27) . Repeat this procedure for the
opposite side.

56. Remove retaining ring (59) .
57. Place stator (27) in a suitable press, as shown.
58. Remove adapter (60) from stator (27) .
59. Remove bolts (61) .
60. Install bolts (61) as forcing screws. Attach Tooling (F) and a suitable lifting device to
adapter (62) . The weight of adapter (62) is approximately 30 kg (65 lb).
61. Remove adapter (62) .

62. Remove O-ring seals (63) from adapter (62) .
63. Remove bearing cup (64) and seal (65) from adapter (62) .

66. Remove retaining ring (68) and adapter (69) from gear assembly (66) .

68. Use Tooling (D) in order to remove bearing cone (72) from gear assembly (66) .
69. Remove shim pack (73) and bearing cup (74) .

71. Remove O-ring seal (77) from cover (76) .

If equipped with this style lube adapter.
74. Remove lube adapter (79a) , (79b) .

75. Remove idler gear assembly (80) .
76. Remove bearing assemblies (81) and ring (82) from idler gear assembly (80) .
77. Repeat steps 59 through 76 in order to remove the remaining pump adapter.

78. Remove bolts (83) and block (84) .
79. Remove O-rings (85) and plugs (86) .

1. Install O-rings (85) and plugs (86).
2. Install block (84) and bolts (83).
3. Install bearing assemblies (81) and ring (82) into idler gear assembly (80).

4. Install idler gear assembly (80).
5. Install lube adapter (79b), (79a). Use Tooling (J) on threads of (79b) and (79a).

6. Install idler gear shaft (79). Install bolt (78) and the washer.
7. Install O-ring seal (77) onto cover (76).
8. Install cover (76) and three bolts (75).

9. Lower the temperature of bearing cup (74) and install bearing cup (74). Install entire shim
pack (73).
10. Raise the temperature of bearing cone (72). Install bearing cone (72) onto gear assembly
(66).
11. Install plate (71) onto adapter (69). Install retaining ring (70) into adapter (69).
