WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR
MEDIA PRODUCT?
PREPARATION FOR THE FILMING…
 Prior to starting the filming, we established that our target audience would
be those aged between 15 and around 22, who tend to be around group E
and B. This is through our estimate that our BBFC rating would be 15, due
to violent scenes, explicit uses of language and regular threat throughout
the film. We thought that our film would appeal to those of a similar age so
people such as students who can also be seen as vulnerable in such
situations.
 We decided on this target audience due to our complicated and intriguing
storyline to the film. This means that more intelligent people can keep up.
We also sent out a survey/questionnaire to help us decide on it through
getting responses from different types of people.
GROUPING…
 Group E – This group takes into account people who are in education so people
such as students. Our questionnaire suggested that older teenagers and young
adults tend to enjoy horror films more.
 Group B – This involves the people who are fairly well paid professionals, they are
often in middle management employment. Teachers are good examples of this
group. The fact that they can teach others suggests that they are indeed well
educated therefore they will be able to follow the storyline easily whilst also feeling
a sense of empathy as they are in a similar position of reasonability as our detective.
They can then begin to think of the possibility of something similar happening to
them.
BBFC…
 In terms of our film’s BBFC rating, we decided to give ‘There were two’ a rating of a
15. As previously mentioned, this is due to the violent scenes in the film, explicit use
of aggressive language and frequent threating behaviour. This is also due to the
main theme of a unstable mental health being difficult to understand and quite
intimidating for younger viewers.
 A similar psychological horror film, ‘The Shining’, is also rated a 15, which supports
our decision to place ‘There were two’ in the same category. This is due to them
being similar types of film.
SUMMARY…
 So overall, the target audience that we have chosen for our horror in our opinion
and going off the responses we received is correct . This is also the case with the
BBFC rating of a 15 as the reasons justify it well.
 The majority of responses we received were from 15-25 year-olds which is the age
category we originally wanted to target. They seemed to enjoy the film opening with
the main reason being it’s intriguing nature and the possible outcomes of the film.
