John Doerr originally presented OKRs to Google’s leadership in 1999 when Google was less than a year old, and they’ve been in use ever since.

This deck was inspired by a presentation given by Rick Klau to Google Startup Lab. This video can be found here - http://tins.rklau.com/2013/05/how-google-sets-goals-okrs.html

  • @Kris Duggan The best OKR experience I have had was using a blank gdoc for each quarter. It supports transparency of objectives. It takes 5 minutes to create. Why make it more complicated?

  • Thanks for sharing this presentation. Teams adopting OKRs need to understand the difference between objectives and key results and see real-world examples. Where organizations growing from startups into enterprises are finding challenges though is in the execution phase. At a certain size, spreadsheets and Google docs don’t work for tracking OKRs. Google built proprietary technology. Other companies need to consider a goal-setting platform for execution because as John Doerr says, execution is everything.
