Three challenges that many animal shelters face are having an insufficient number of volunteers to care for the animals, limited space to house the animals which can impact their health, and insufficient funding to continuously run the shelter operations and programs. The article discusses how shelters often do not have enough volunteers to properly administer medication, clean, feed, bathe and play with all the animals. They also have limited space which can lead to overcrowding and exposure to diseases. Additionally, shelters require consistent sponsors and funding to keep running programs and find homes for the animals, but many people are unaware of shelters' financial needs.
