Question: Using an Organizational Justice perspective, compare the situation(s) described in the case from the points of view of Christina and Aaron
What is JUSTICE…? Justice reflects the perceived fairness of an authority’s decision making (Colquitt, Gellaty, LePine, Wesson,161) High levels of justice = fair decision outcomes, processes and are implemented in fair manner
Four Dimensions: Distributive Justice Procedural Justice Interpersonal Justice Informational Justice Of Organizational Justice
Distributive Justice reflects the perceived fairness of decision-making outcomes(Colquitt, Gellaty, LePine, Wesson,167) Christina I exceeded my task performance requirements and exercised citizenship behavior For example I: stay after hours, make gift baskets and make special deliveries to those who are unable due to age and sickness Aaron Christina did not display citizenship behaviour and was not someone who contributed more than other employees Christina should not get special treatment that will detrimental his organization solidarity
Procedural Justice reflects the perceived fairness of decision-making processes(Colquitt, Gellaty, LePine, Wesson,168) Christina I was unable to contribute to the decision making processes, and could not voice my opinion I tried approaching mydepartment manager, wrote a letter, and tried to talk to Aaronduring store hours and received no response Aaron I was in line with the rule of bias suppression, and ensure all employees are treated equally across all sections
Interpersonal Justice reflects the perceived fairness of the treatment received by employees from authorities(Colquitt, Gellaty, LePine, Wesson,169) Christina I was not get fair treatment by my authorities because I did not have respect or propriety I was not respected from my authorities for the tasks I performed, also not respected because Aaron did not respond to my letter Aaron made a negative remark and I felt it was offense for him to say I should quit if I did not get my way Aaron I respected Christina by allowing her to address her concerns I needed to exert my authority towards Christina to be fair to all my employees
Informational Justice is the perceived fairness of the communications provided to employees from authorities(Colquitt, Gellaty, LePine, Wesson,171) Christina I was unable to understand why my extra efforts were not being recognized It was hard communicate with top authorities; manager was unable to effectively solve my concerns Aaron would not respond to my letter, and was unavailable during my store hours, which left me with the option of calling his personal home number Aaron I did tell my employees about the incentive program, and their pay rate I also allow employees to contact me if they have any concerns, and offer my home number as an emergency as well
