Irish trainer Gerard Butler was banned from racing for five years by the British Horseracing Authority for doping offenses after nine horses in his care tested positive for a banned anabolic steroid. Butler admitted to administering Rexogin, a concentrated steroid designed for human bodybuilding, to four horses himself instead of using a veterinarian. The BHA panel concluded Butler's covert purchase and administration of the illegal steroid showed a dereliction of his duty to properly care for the horses.
