Context: Local Action, Global effects. Starting with Antarctica. Done map using atlas and looked at
the past and race to Poles. Last lesson started the carousel lesson . . . .

                                  INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES:

        L.O. To identify the key features of Antarctica including climate, wildlife, population,
                                       discovery and location.
Learners gather information about Antarctica to create a visual aid that has . .

All    To have at least two key facts in each category unknown before.

Most     To complete all the given sections and questions.

Some: To synthesise (looking for logical relationships in the varying sources) information and record in a
detailed manner.

Vulnerable Learners: School Action/ Plus/ Statemented/ Looked After/               Teaching Assistant – Support
G&T.

Starter: Starter sheet – what they already know about the 6 categories (two were covered last lesson-
Monday 1)

Make them think about their individual and group role – see sheet.

Main: Get into groups from Monday – if not already in groups.

First set of sheets – focus on what they have said on their starter sheet. 10 mins each activity. Times
with reminders.

Repeat with other sheets.

Refocus strategies after each activity on the learning outcomes and their starter sheet. As a carousel
may send a learner to another table that has doen the same category and share their recordings –
which is better? Why?

Ongoing Quiz they are creating.

My role to circulate and make sure learning is taking place. Also to check/collect in IST. Using their
IST for an assessment 3rd Feb which is their next lesson.

Plenary: Plenary Sheet summary about what they have learnt today. Questions for next lesson?
Learning activity success and improvement see sheet.

Hopefully time to show Helen Skelyon’s quick summary of her achievement for Sport Relief –link to
tday’s activity and next lesson with assessment oftheir IST.
