           Dear Ms. Bohn,

Thank you for contacting me about proposed spending cuts to the fiscal year 2011 federal budget. I appreciate
           learning of your specific concerns.

While it is essential that the federal government get its fiscal house in order, I voted against the Continuing
Resolution (H.R. 1) proposed by the Republican leadership because it will disproportionately hurt working families,
women, seniors and vulnerable Vermonters. The bill unfairly targets domestic programs, leaving the Pentagon and
give-away tax loopholes for oil companies and other corporations largely untouched. Finally, the bill is estimated to
cost the American economy 700,000 jobs at a time when Vermonters continue to struggle to make ends meet.

It is clear that the level of federal spending and debt has reached a crisis stage and that Congress and the President
must work together to bring it under control. While I believe everything must be on the table – from defense
spending, to entitlement spending, to tax loopholes, to line item appropriations – fiscal austerity measures must not
disproportionately affect seniors or low and middle income Americans.

Please continue to be in touch. I look forward to seeing you in Vermont soon.
