Find Out Why You Need Energy Efficient Replacement Windows

If you want to cut down on your monthly energy costs, it’s about time you trade out those old windows
with brand new energy efficient windows. Replacement windows will immediately help you save up on
those energy bills, give your house a fresh new look, raise the value of your house and even let you do
your part in creating a greener environment.

This is definitely a great idea.

Before you set out to replace the busted out windows, you’ll first need to consider the type of
replacement required. Determine whether the entire window, frame and all, would need to be changed
or if you only need to fix one part of the window. You may also need to consider using a new sash kit to
spruce up the window.

If you have decided on replacing the whole window, here’s what you can expect. A full window
replacement would mean taking out the entire frame to insert the new one into the opening. Once the
old window is replaced with a frame that fits properly, you will instantly notice that the energy in your
home is more efficient. Although a full window replacement is the priciest option, you can rest assured
that it is a worthwhile investment for the future of your home.

The more affordable alternative is to leave the frame as it is and simply replacing the side jambs, sash
and trim. With this option, the new window is inserted to repair the ill-fitting conditions. You can also
use a replacement sash kit to fix the problem. Be advised that the frame has to be in good shape for this
option to work. If there are large air leaks or if the frame no longer properly fits and looks to be beyond
repair, you are better off getting a full window replacement.

Now that you have determined which solution works best for you, it’s time to decide on the type of
energy efficient windows to purchase. Make sure that the new windows qualify for the Energy Star
program. The program was developed by the Department of Energy (DOE) and Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) to aid consumers who are looking for cost effective windows, skylights and
doors. The designation sets a standard for home products and makes sure that a certain criteria is met.
When you replace your windows with ones that have been certified by the Energy Star program, you are
guaranteed reduced home energy costs. This lowers your home’s energy usage, decreasing the
greenhouse gases and eventually reducing the carbon footprint left behind by your house. Imagine that;
a comfortable and beautiful house that also does it part in saving the planet. Life will truly be much
easier when your home has energy efficient windows.
