The significance of the Battle of Guadalcanal By David Jackson U.S Airplanes landing for aid over Henderson Field

Turning point in the war in the Pacific  The Japanese were surprised by the allied Offense. They lost the air field under construction. Guadalcanal is a close island to Japan and was now in the hands of the allied forces. This was the beginning of a strategic Allied Battle plan That would lead to the Japanese surrender.
The Battle itself  The Battle was a turning point for the in the Pacific Wars and the worse times for fighting were between August 1942 to February 1943. It was an island that the Empire of Japan was trying to use to cut off Allied communication and keep a protective ring that kept a defense around the Japanese captured Islands.

Henderson Field  An Air Field that was originally Under construction by the Japanese was taken over when the allies forces landed. The Air field was originally named after Marine Major  Lofton Henderson. While trying to stop Japanese carriers he became the first to die in the battle of Midway. Henderson Field later became Honiara International Airport. It is the only airport in the Solomon Islands.
