2. The Ring The beginning of The Ring starts with an establishing shot of a large house. An establishing shot establishes a scene giving the viewer information about where the scene is set. The sound of rain can be heard this is use of diegetic sound to make this shot appear as natural as possible. The darkness of the shot helps to create intensity and gives atmosphere. The camera zooms in closer to the shot drawing the audience in. Only one part of the house is lit up ,this adding to the tension the house also appears to be secluded .This makes the people living in the house appear vulnerable
3. The Ring The Ring slide two: The camera then skips to a mid shot of two teenage girls in a bedroom watching TV. The sound of the TV is again diegetic ,the room is lit up in a green yellowish glow making the room appear tense and adding to the movies creepy effect. One girl is laid out across the bed whilst the other sits in front of the TV, both girls appear to be dressed in school uniform however one of them more smartly dressed then the other. The girl not so smartly dressed a brunette wears makeup and jewellery this telling the audience her choice of rebellion against school hinting at the fact they are teenagers. The girls turn the TV of and proceed to have a conversation on the bed ,the girl with the darker hair tells a story the camera zooming in closely to her face. This was a technique Alfred Hitchcock used, the zooming in of the characters face would help to the intensity of the drama and also show how the character is feeling at that point. Whilst the girl is talking you can see the back of the brunette girls head this is called a point of view shot ,this shows how that person views the situation from their perspective. The shots between the two girls having the conversation move very slowly all of this adds to the slow build up of the climax which arrives at the end of the scene when the girl dies. The three minute clip ends with the brunette lying across the darker haired girls lap pretending to fake her own death ,this is a mid shot of the two characters ,and they are both framed in the centre to show there surroundings eg.the bed ,the window and the open door behind them revealing a daunting and dark corridor.
