Davidson County has a rich history dating back to the early 1800s. It was formed in 1822 and named for William Lee Davidson, a Revolutionary War hero. The county seat is Lexington, which was established in 1785 and saw much development during the antebellum period as the county grew tobacco, corn and wheat crops.
