An accomplished professional in the field of automation and power, Fritz Gautschi contributed to the success of the ABB Group in both the United States and Europe. He joined the company as CEO of the corporation's Switzerland-based power company, then assumed leadership of the its global gas turbine and combined-cycle power plant business.Under his leadership ABB developped a new gasturbine type using the concept of sequential combustion. After emigrating to the United States to become ABB's executive vice president for power generation at ABB USA, Fritz Gautschi oversaw the formation and management of a U.S.-based joint venture between ABB and ALSTOM.
