2. Aesop was an ancient Greek storyteller. He lived 2500 years
ago, around 550 BCE. Little is known about the life of Aesop. Some say
he was an ugly hunchbacked slave who so delighted his master with his
stories that Aesop was given his freedom. One thing is known for sure Aesop was a very smart, resourceful and inventive man. We do
know, however, that his name is associated with the emergence of
fables as a genre in Greek literature. Aesop's fables were not written in
his lifetime, but passed on from mouth to mouth. He was a keen
observer of both animals and people. Most of the characters in his
stories are animals, some of which take on human characteristic and
are personified in ways of speech and emotions. Each fable has an
accompanying moral .Over the centuries, Aesop's fables have been
rewritten and published and illustrated and translated into almost
every language in the world.
