Steering And Implement Pump

Disassemble Steering And Implement Pump
Start By:
a. remove steering and implement pump
1. Remove tube assembly (2) from pump (1).
2. Remove four bolts (3), tube assembly (4) and the seal from pump (1).

3. Remove two bolts (6), and remove hydraulic oil cooler pump (7) from adapter (5). Remove the
O-ring seal from adapter (5).
4. Remove coupler (9) from the shaft.
5. Remove four bolts (8), and remove adapter (5) from the pump.
6. Remove O-ring seal (10) from head (11).
7. Remove four bolts (12), and remove pressure and flow compensation valve (13) from head (11).

8. Disassemble pressure and flow compensation valve (13) as follows:
a. Remove two O-ring seals (18) from valve body (17).
b. Remove hex headed cap (14). Belleville springs (15) and spool (16). Remove the O-ring seal
from cap (14).
c. Remove cap (30), spring (32) and spring retainers (31) and (33) from the valve body. Remove
the O-ring seal, screw (29) and locknut (28) from cap (30).
d. On the other side of the valve body, remove round headed cap (25) and spool (27). Remove
piston (26) from spool (27). Remove the O-ring seal (from cap (25).
e. Remove cap (22), spring retainer (21), springs (20), and spool (19) from valve body (17).
Remove the O-ring seal, screw (23) and locknut (24) from cap (22).
9. Remove four bolts (38), and remove adapter (34) from housing (35). Remove O-ring seal (37)
from adapter (34).
10. Remove the four bolts, flanges and block (36) from head (11).

11. Remove O-ring seal (40) from housing (35).
12. Attach tooling (A) and a hoist to head (11). Remove nine bolts (39), and remove head (11)
from housing (35).
13. Loosen two locknuts (42), and remove two setscrews (41) from head (11).
14. Use C-clamp (43) to compress springs (45).
15. Remove snap ring (44) and release the spring pressure on C-clamp (43). Remove retainer (46)
and springs (45) from head (11).

16. If necessary, remove five plugs (47), bushings (48) and pins (50) from head (11).
17. Remove piston (49) from head (11). Remove bearing cup (51), and the shims under it, from
head (11).
18. Remove O-ring seals (52) from piston (49).
19. Remove rod (53) from the support.
20. Remove port plate (54) from the cylinder barrel.
21. Remove cylinder barrel (55), the swashplate and shaft as a unit from housing (35).

22. Remove support (56) from housing (35).
23. Remove bearing cup (57) from support (56). Remove the dowel from the opposite side of
support (56).
24. Remove snap ring (58) and lip-type seal (59) from housing (35).
NOTICE
Do not damage the bronze, lapped face of cylinder barrel (55). Do not
damage the nine pistons inside the cylinder barrel.
25. Position shaft (62), swashplate (61) and cylinder barrel (55) as a unit in a soft-jawed vise as
shown.
26. Using tooling (B), pull against cylinder barrel (55) and remove bearing cone (60) from shaft
(62).

27. Remove spacer (63) from shaft (62) and cylinder barrel (55).
28. Remove shaft (62) from cylinder barrel (55) and swashplate (61).
29. Remove bearing cone (64) and bearing race (65) from shaft (62).
30. Remove swashplate (61) from cylinder barrel (55) and the pistons.
31. Remove actuator pistons (66) and (67) and actuator rod (68) from swashplate (61). Remove
the rings from actuator pistons (66) and (67).

32. Remove retraction plate (71) and nine pistons (69) fro
m cylinder barrel (55) and coupling (70). Remove nine pistons (69) from retraction plate (71).
33. Remove coupling (70) and pins (72) from cylinder barrel (55).
34. Use a press and tooling (C) to compress spring (75), and remove snap ring (73).
35. Release the tension on the spring, and remove spacer (74), spring (75) and spacer (76) from
cylinder barrel (55).
Assemble Steering And Implement Pump

1. Position spacer (76), spring (75), and spacer (74) in cylinder barrel (55).
2. Use a press and tooling (C) to compress spring (75), and install snap ring (73).
3. Using a thick grease to hold the pins in place, install pins (72) in the large spline openings of
cylinder barrel (55).
4. Position coupling (70) on pins (72) and cylinder barrel (55).
5. Install nine pistons (69) in retractor plate (71).

6. Lubricate nine pistons (69) and cylinder barrel (55) with clean oil. Position the pistons in the
barrel bores, and lower into position until retractor plate (71) rests on coupling (70).
7. Install the rings on actuator pistons (66) and (67).
8. Apply 9S3265 Retaining Compound of the threads of actuator pistons (66) and (67) and
actuator rod (68), and install them on swashplate (61).
9. Lubricate the pistons and swashplate (61) with clean oil. Position swashplate (61) on the pistons
and cylinder barrel (55).
10. Heat bearing cone (64) to a maximum temperature of 135°C (275°F), and install it on shaft
(62).
11. Apply 9S3265 Retaining Compound on the inside diameter of bearing race (65), and install the
bearing race on shaft (62).
12. Position shaft (62) in cylinder barrel (55) and swashplate (61).

13. Position shaft (62), the swashplate and cylinder barrel (55) as a unit in a soft-jawed vise as
shown.
14. Install spacer (63) on shaft (62) and cylinder barrel (55).
15. Heat bearing cone (60) to a maximum temperature of 135°C (275°F). Install the bearing cone
on shaft (62).
16. Apply 9S3265 Retaining Compound on the outside diameter of lip-type seal (59), and install
the lip-type seal in housing (35).
17. Install snap ring (58) in housing (35).

18. Install the dowel and bearing cup (57) in support (56).
19. Align the dowel with the hole in housing (35), and position support (56) in the housing.
20. Position the shaft, swashplate and cylinder barrel (55) as a unit in housing (35).
21. Install rod (53) in the support.
22. Install port plate (54) on the cylinder barrel.
23. Install O-ring seals (52) on piston (49). Put clean oil on the O-ring seals.
24. Install piston (49), bushings (48) and pins (50) in head (11).
25. Apply 9S3265 Retaining Compound on the threads of five plugs (47). Install the five plugs in
head (11). Tighten the plugs to a torque of 25 ± 7 N·m (18 ± 5 lb ft).
26. Install the original shims and bearing cup (51) in head (11).

27. Install springs (45) and retainer (46) in head (11).
28. Use C-clamp (43) to compress springs (45) and (47), and install snap ring (44). Remove the C-
clamp.
29. Install two setscrews (41) and two locknuts (42) in head (11).
30. Apply 5P3413 Sealant on housing (35).
31. Attach tooling (A) and a hoist to head (11). Make sure the dowel pins in head (11) are aligned
with the slot in the port plate, and position head (11) on housing (35). Install nine bolts (39) that
hold the head in place. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 95 ± 15 N·m (70 ± 11 lb ft).
32. Install O-ring seal (40) on housing (35). Put clean oil on the O-ring seal.

33. Position block (36) and the flanges on head (11), and install the four bolts.
34. Install O-ring seal (37) on adapter (34).
35. Position adapter (34) on housing (35), and install four bolts (38).
36. Assemble pressure and flow compensation valve (13) as follows:
a. Install the O-ring seal, screw (23) and lock nut (24) in cap (22).
b. Install spool (19), springs (20), spring retainer (21) and cap (22) in valve body (17).
c. Install the O-ring seal on cap (25). Install piston (26) in spool (27). Install spool (27) and cap
(25) in valve body (17).
d. Install the O-ring seal, screw (29) and locknut (28) in cap (30).
e. Install spring retainers (31) and (33), spring (32) and cap (30) in the valve body.
f. Install the O-ring seal on cap (14). Install spool (16) in the valve body. Install Belleville springs
(15) in the valve body to get the maximum spring effect, (do not cup together). Install cap (14) in
the valve body.
g. Install two O-ring seals (18) on valve body (17).

37. Position pressure and flow compensation valve (13) on head (11), and install four bolts (12).
Tighten the bolts to a torque of 25 ± 7 N·m (18 ± 5 lb ft).
38. Install O-ring seal (10) on head (11). Put clean oil on the O-ring seal.
39. Position adapter (5) on the pump, and install four bolts (8).
40. Install coupler (9) on the shaft.
41. Install the O-ring seal on hydraulic oil cooler pump (7). Put clean oil on the O-ring seal.
42. Position hydraulic oil cooler pump (7) on adapter (5) and install two bolts (6).
43. Position the seal and tube assembly (4) on pump (1), and install four bolts (3).
44. Install tube assembly (2) on pump (1).

Steering Motor
SMCS - 4325-010; 4325-015; 4325-016
Remove And Install Steering Motor
Start By:
a. remove counterbalance valve.
1. Disconnect hose assemblies (1) and (4) from steering motor (2).
2. Remove two bolts (3) that hold the steering motor in place.
3. Rotate steering motor (2) counterclockwise 90° as shown.
4. Attach a nylon strap and hoist to the steering motor. Install two 3/8" -16 NC forcing screws (5)
in the steering motor. Tighten the forcing screws evenly, and remove the steering motor from the
adapter. The weight of the steering motor is 32 kg (70 lb).

5. Remove the O-ring seal from the steering motor.
NOTE: The following steps are for installation of the steering motor.
6. Install the O-ring seal on the steering motor. Put clean oil on the O-ring seal.
7. Use a nylon strap and hoist to position steering motor (2) in the adapter as shown.
8. Rotate the steering motor clockwise 90°, and install two bolts (3).
9. Connect hose assemblies (1) and (4) to steering motor (2).
Disassemble Steering Motor
Start By:
a. remove steering motor

(7) Cover Plate
(8) O-ring Seal
(9) Pin And Hole
(10) Cylinder Barrel
(11) Control Plate
(12) Motor Housing
(13) Rotating Group
1. Put plugs in the open oil passages. Clean the outside of the motor thoroughly.
2. Remove the plugs from the two case drain holes (1). Drain any oil from the motor that remains.
3. Put tape around splined drive shaft (2) to prevent damage to the drive shaft or seals during
disassembly of the motor.
4. Tap the cover with a plastic hammer to release some of the pressure against retaining ring (3).
Use tool (A), and remove retaining ring (3).

5. Use two screwdrivers, and remove front cover (4). Remove the O-ring seal and the shims that
are behind front cover (4).
NOTE: Pump drive shaft seal (5) will be destroyed if it is removed from front cover (4).
6. Remove lip-type seal (5) from the front cover.
7. Turn the motor around, and put alignment marks on the rear cover plate and motor housing for
assembly purposes.
8. Remove six bolts (6) and lockwashers that hold the rear cover plate to the motor housing.
9. Rotate the rear cover plate (7) on locating pin (9) and remove it from the motor housing.
10. Not the position of locating pin hole (9) on the control plate that the locating pin in rear cover
plate (7) was removed from.
11. Remove O-ring seal (8) from the motor housing.
12. Remove control plate (11) from motor housing (12). Note the condition of the bronze surface
on cylinder barrel (10) and mating surface of control plate (11).
NOTICE
Use only a puller, such as tooling (B), to remove the rotary group. Do
not use a slidehammer type puller or damage to the motor may result.
13. Use tooling (B), and remove the rotary group from motor housing (12). Make sure cylinder
barrel (10) does not bind as it is pulled through the motor housing.

14. Remove tooling (B) from rotating group (13).
15. Pull cylinder barrel (10) from pistons (18).
16. Remove four Belleville washers (16) and spacer (15) from the center pin bore of cylinder
barrel (10).
17. Use a section of pipe or wood blocks, and put the drive shaft and piston assembly in position
as shown.
18. Position each piston (18) perpendicular to retaining plate (17), and remove them by pulling
straight out. Do this for the seven pistons. The center pin cannot be removed at this time.
19. Check seven pistons (18) at area (X) for scratches and pitting. Make replacements if necessary.
Piston rings (19) may break apart during removal from the pistons. If
the rings are to be removed, wear eye protection to prevent possible
personal injury from flying parts.
20. Use a screwdriver, and remove piston rings (19) from the piston.

21. Remove seven screws (21) that hold retainer plate (17) to the drive shaft assembly. The screws
were installed with Thread Lock so they will be difficult to remove. Impact the screw heads first
to break the seal, and remove by using additional leverage on the screwdriver as shown.
22. Remove retainer plate (17), center pin (20) and ring (22) that holds the center pin in place.
23. Check center pin (20) for scratches or pitting at areas (Y). Replace the center pin if necessary.
Assemble Starting Motor
1. Measure the drive shaft and bearing assembly to determine the thickness of the shim that will be
used under the shaft seal cover. Refer to the Testing And Adjusting Manual for the proper
measuring procedure.
